He's a very good defender and marker.

He's not tall by CB standards though.

Where's Ossie? I'd like the inside track on why he hasn't played that much for Argentina recently.

I haven't seen him play this last season.
I can tell you from what I've seen of him at Velez and the national team.

He's a short CB, fast, tough, Cannavaro style (?). Not so good with his feet.

For the national team, only Maradona used him, and as a RB. The current manager (Sabella) is playing counterattacking football, due to the great forward line, and terrible defense. So he's using more taller defenders (Fernandez and Garay are the starters).

On a side note, I talked today with some people I know at River Plate, and one told me an english club enquired about Eder Alvarez Balanta. River asked 12m euros. He's colombian, 20 yrs old, hard as steel, and very good with his feet. Left footed. I could be us. He only has about 12 games for River, but he's already better than Otamendi imo. I could even say he's a left footed Ledley King. Maybe with better ball control

I think the Cannavaro comparison is a good one - Otamendi looked like a pure defender the couple of times I've seen him.

Makes sense.

Ossie85 - thanks. Baldini may very well have scouting contacts in Argentina.

I'm sure he has. He was the one who took Lamela to Roma from the same team.
