What's new

Out of 30 points left how many do you think we'll need?

Tempting fate sure, but shouldn't we remember that Liverpool have been shit against ant half decent side all year?

Just cos they can rack up 4-5 against nothing teams, why should we fear them? I sure don't.

It irritated me last year when Redknapp set us up for a nil-nil.

Let's not make the same mistake again.

Anyway, point in hand: how many points? Man City and Chelsea: banana-skins, but we could get something out of them. Nothing else is remotely scary. 18-19 points would be a solid if unspectacular return and would be enough IMO

Typically, this would mean they would get that first win against us!

I think still having a decent lead over Arse (4-7 points) going into the last 4 games is key.

Our away form this season has been awesome and the only home game I'm worried about is City

I think 20 points could be good enough for 3rd and will easily topple the scum

17 will definitely do. Arsenal aren't going to win 8/10 games. No chance.

5 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats from our last 10 games. That is very achievable.

Arsenal's fixtures:

Swansea (A) - Tough game
Reading (H)
West Brom (A) - Tough game
Norwich (H)
Everton (H) - Tough game
Fulham (A) - Tough game
Manchester United (H) - Tough game
QPR (A) - They'll struggle here, QPR will be fighting for their lives to stay in the league
Wigan (H) - Again, Wigan will be fighting for survival and usually turn it on at this time of the year, i'd still expect them to win this though.
Newcastle (A) - Tough game

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if this Arsenal team only wins about 5 of those. There's only 2/3 games you'd completely expect them to win.

We'll do it. (y) In fact, I think we could quite easily do it with about 14 points.

Totally agree. Arsenal won't get close to winning all those, and I hope Everton are still very close to them by the time they play. QPR, if they beat Sunderland next week, are very much back in with a realistic chance of staying up - that will be a tough game for sure.

Hoping Madrid knock United out tomorrow night, so they're totally focused on the League and finishing with as many points as possible irrespectibe if its already won.

16 more points will be enough to claim fourth, obviously we want more than this though. I'm hoping for at least 20.

Liverpool may have not beaten a top side, but I think we are now going to be playing them at their strongest point of the season - Suarez in form, Sturridge and Coutinho looking good, Gerrard fit and playing a lot better etc etc. I think its key that we don't lose, if we draw against Liverpool and beat Fulham the week after then I won't be unhappy. One of the keys to beating Arsenal yesterday is that their confidence takes a further dent going away to Swansea, in what is one of their hardest games. If they'd beat us, they would've gone to that fixture in an upswing.

A win at Anfield would be MASSIVE as it stands right now. Lets hope Arsenal drop something at Swansea because that will see their last push stumble very badly at the first hurdle.

reckon 18 even though i'm expecting 20+. I just cannot see us losing, reckon we'll do city at home. The only thing that can stop us is injuries....

I personally think Liverpool away is our toughest game remaining, even more so than Chelsea away and City at home. They'll be bang up for it at Anfield, and they're very dangerous looking.

That being said they'll give us a chance, they still don't look convincing at the back and Wigan, although woeful at times, could and should have scored a couple against them.

I would be pleased with a point.

from those games last season we won 5 games, drew 3 and lost 2 giving us 18 points and if we repeat that this season we will end on 3 more points than last season.

I can see Arsenal picking up a lot of points in the last 10 games, but it all depends if they have imploded or not.

Ave. position of teams who Arsenal have to play: 11.8
Ave. position of teams who we have to play: 9.4

There's so many potential banana skins there for Arsenal. I think they'll drop points at West Brom. Lukaku will run them ragged.

Agree about United going out, the last thing we want is United in a situation where they've got Arsenal sandwiched in between two Champions league games having already won the League.

I don't think we'll need 16 really. That means that Arsenal have to win 7, draw 2 and lose only 1. That isn't happening. I think 14 points would be enough. We'll breeze that total.

Pretty much my thoughts, man. I think we can set up quite well for this game though, we sit tight and a little deeper and look to hit on the counter. Coutinho hasn't played a team as physically strong as us yet, I think we can limit his impact through those means, and we have shackled Suarez very well in the past. If we nicked a win at Anfield, I'd literally be almost 100% sure of us going on to take a CL berth, because we'd be flying even more off the back of what will be a very very hard game.

Mate if we beat Liverpool I'll be seriously looking at second and at least third place.

Changing the topic slightly, I'm feeling very confident about the game at Stamford Bridge. Something just tells me that that game will be the crown in AVB's season. You can already see the headlines. I dunno, I just think it seems like fate that AVB will go to the Bridge and bring back three points, thus bringing it about full circle and 100% completing his comeback with a big fuck you to his former club ! :)

I'd be interested to see how many points Arsenal got from those games last season.

I actually think we can go the rest of the season unbeaten, something like:

Liverpool (A) - Draw
Fulham (H) - Win
Swansea (A) - Win
Everton (H) - Draw
Chelsea (A) - Draw
City (H) - Win (I have a feeling about this one)
Wigan (A) - Win
Southampton (H) - Win
Stoke (A) - Draw
Sunderland (H) - Win

That might even be enough to see us second.

Swansea (A) L 3-2
Reading (H) W 3-0 (Swapped them for Bolton as they we're the highest ranked team that went down at Reading won the championship)
West Brom (A) W 3-2
Norwich (H) - D 3-3
Everton (H) - W 1-0
Fulham (A) L 2-1
Manchester United (H) L 2-1
QPR (A) L 2-1
Wigan (H) L 2-1
Newcastle (A) D 0-0

A grand total of 11 points.

yep, I look at it this way -- 18-20 points over the last 10 games of the season is about Spurs season long pace. so, let's say 6 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses,.... that's 20 points making 74 for the season. that should secure 3rd probably, 4th definitely, and even an outside shot at second if both citeh and chel$ki nose dive. anything more than 20 points is a bonus. you pick the 6 wins on the schedule... COYS!!!

Well that is one negative start to a discussion. End of the day, I am tired of looking behind us. That's the mark of the weak. That was how we have been for too long and it's cost us the past two years.

What we need to figure out is how many we need to catch City. And we will. We will win our five home matches, one of which is a six pointer against City. So how many can we get in the away legs. Liverpool play open football so this is possible because we will hit them with the counter. Swansea is the the same. I think we draw or win both. Rafa will park the bus, so the Chelsea match is tough but they are close to us in talent. Wigan and Stoke might all be good at home, but we are just plain better.

So if we drop four points outside of City and beat them then we need them to drop 4 more points this year. Could be doable.
