Just hope this mystery striker is promising. Some I can think of:

Rafael Leao - Looks to have a very high ceiling but has played as a winger at Milan due to Ibra returning. Most likely due to the links to Mendes and Sacramento, plus Milan's interest in Aurier. Loan swap with obligations might suit both clubs?

Moussa Dembele - Long time favourite of ours, still only 24 and Lyon seem to be needing to sell players after covid and with no CL. No strong media links with him to anyone.

Odsonne Edouard - Exciting young player being linked with Palace and Villa. Problem is I believe that PSG have a big sell on %.

Donyell Malen - Promising young ST from PSV. Former Arsenal youth player so knows London.

I'm not sure the likes of Milik, Costa and Giroud fit the criteria of young or under the radar.

I'd still be super happy with Habib Diallo. Happy to be back up, wants to come here, proper CF, big strong lad etc. etc.. Much prefer him to Milik tbh. No idea who the mystery striker is but have a familiar feeling that it won't happen.

Done a little bit of research on the kid from Austrian football forums, a ball ache with the translator. Basically most don’t think he isn’t ready for a move, has had only one good season in Austria.

He’s very fast and has an eye for a goal but technically isn’t top tier. Scored goals against weaker teams but totally disappeared when playing against the bigger teams in Europe.

Reminds me a lot of a few summers ago when we were desperate for a high quality winger, were told everything was fine and that we have someone lined up, and the first time we heard the player's name was to be told it wasn't happening anymore.

Think we ended up with either N'jie or GKN in the end. Which worked out well.

I'm not going to believe we've found a better prospect ability wise until I hear the name.

The only other alternatives I can think of, but probably just as expensive as Daka, would be Malen (PSV), Edouard (Celtic).

My guess is it'll be that Rafael Leao from Milan. Portuguese, 21 years old, 6ft 2 and pretty sure Mendes is his agent.

He certainly isn't bad, not as big of a prospect as someone like Daka though - but he'd probably be affordable.

Only slight problem with this shout, is I can't tell if he's more of a winger these days or striker that likes to drift wide.

I think people are putting too much weight into this 'under the radar' thing from JJ. Through twitter, I've seen JJ mention he hasn't seen or paid attention to all rumours so he's not necessarily clued up on what all the media links are.

I think it could be reasonable that when he says 'under the radar', it could be just a player that hasn't really been mentioned in the UK mainstream press. E.g. the likes of Wilson, King, Watkins rather than he referring to players that haven't been mentioned at all. It still could potentially be the likes of Milik or Costa imo as we've only had a couple of tenuous links via foreign media iirc

Or he isn't our first choice because he isn't wanting to come to us? If he wants to stay another year (probably to attract bigger clubs) then there isn't much we can do.

I can't help but feel we're looking for someone a bit more developed. A young prospect is always nice but I'd prefer a developed player for the here and now. We need to win something under Jose before he leaves in a couple of years. This type of signing would have been great for a Poch long term project but we've moved from that now. I still have high hopes for Parrott in the long term. We need someone with a bit more experience at a high level if they are going to stand in for Kane.

This is the issue with summer gossip and people giving it so much weight. We will never know who was first choice or how much of a target Daka was, but you can be sure this place and Twitter will be having an absolute meltdown over it in the next few hours.

It's basically been confirmed by other ITK and even Rob that the current priority target has not been linked by the media.

Maybe recent developments with Milik will have changed things but I think there's a lot of agent bluster going on there after Juve walked away.
