Alli and Eriksen both had slow starts the season. I don't think either them really got going until November.

It really depends when players' cast their vote.

What strikes me is that the vote isn't electronic. It's still done by paper (see link for John Terry last year) and sent to an accountancy firm to independently count - like the Oscars. If they managed to secure an online system they may be able open it up later and therefore make the vote much more relevant to the season.

Surprised Rose isn't on there. He's been excellent and generally regarded as the best LB in the prem. His rise has been phenomenal. Walker has been excellent too, as well as obviously Jan and Toby, but Rose has been picked up this year by pundits and experts etc so would've thought he'd be in with a shout.

I guess I could say the same about Wanyama, he's been immense every game he plays.

Dele not being on the list is just laughable.

It's rare that a defender wins the main event over a striker or midfielder, hence no rose or walker.
As for Dele, as its player of the year, I would say he didn't do enough after the summer to warrant it.
Watch him be selected for poty 2017, assuming he doesn't have a big drop in form post summer.

Why do we always have this argument every time the nominations come out lol, it's called player of the year, it's based on a year on year basis. The voting process is opened up in January and announced at the end of the season.

Yup.

Thoughts on Team of the Year? Trying to be as unbiased as possible, I would go for:

De Gea
Moses Luis Vertonghen Rose
Kante Alli
Mane Hazard Sanchez
Lukaku

Tough to leave out the likes of Kane, Eriksen and Walker, but Mane and Sanchez have been the stand out players for their teams, and Lukaku gets the nod up front due to sheer number of goals (clearly Kane's injuries haven't helped). Not much between De Gea, Lloris and Courtois in goal really, they've all had good seasons.

Reckon it's gonna look something like this:

Cortuois
Luiz Alderweireld Keane
Walker Kante Alli (Dele) Alonso
Sanchez Hazard
Lukaku

Courtois
Azpilicueta Luiz Vertonghen Rose
Kante Wanyama
Hazard Dele Pedro/Eriksen
Kane

Walker, Moses and Son close too

The only players that I think should be close to PL TOTY that aren't Chelsea or Spurs are Mane, Sane, Keane and Lukaku.

This is what I think it'll end up being

Courtois
Luiz, Toby, Azpilicueta
Walker, Kante, Alli, Alonso
Sanchez, Hazard
Lukaku

Genuinely think there it will be overloaded with chav players.

All great efforts except for the fact the team of the year is always 4-4-2

The formation should reflect the teams that have been most dominant. Both us and Chelsea play a 3-4-3 (or variants of) so the PFA team should logically follow suit

However, as Dele missing out on a nomination for player of the year due to the cut off missing out the crucial 3rd of the season, logic doesn't play much of a role in the PFA's thinking

It blatantly isn't player of the season, the clue is in the name ffs. I know that's being a bit obvious, but I have heard a quite a few ex players(pundits) mention last season when talking about Kante and his chances this time round.

If it isn't player of the season why is the award always over 2 years, i.e 2016-2017?
