You not worried about the quotes from him saying he would decline us if we approached due to the whole saga with him and agents before?

That's my personal hangup when thinking about him possibly coming here. They were pretty strong remarks and I'm not sure how you would go about smoothing that over. But, if Levy requested AVB to do his bidding, he might be able to convince PEA to make a 180. AVB seems to really be able to connect with players and maybe Levy utilized that.

So I just got home from a wedding and saw the news/tweet.

Dear Lord I hope it's true. Perfect signing for us. Fits the 4-3-3 as a wide forward, the 4-2-3-1 as a winger/striker, puts in delicious crosses, beats defenders with pace or the dribble and while his shooting can sometimes be off the mark, it never stops him from going back in for more.

I'm trying not to get too excited right now. But he's a fantastic player.
So he isnt that great infront of goal then?? Superb! Quick lets sign him.:)

He's definitely good in front of goal (19 goals this season in Ligue 1 with 14 assists) and he does it from primarily a wide position. St. Etienne play a pretty fluid attacking front and it's not uncommon to see PEA attacking from either wing on through the middle in a span of about 5 minutes. The point I was trying to make was that while he does get goals, he does sometimes miss chances that you think he should at least be putting the shot on goal. It's really the only flaw I'd say he has.

Still scored 19 goals and had had 14 assists in 34 appearances this year. That's pretty good going. He could be more clinical, but he shoots a lot, like drogba did.

I think this is a good thing - you don't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket! Imagine him bale and Townsend running at the opposition and raining shots on goal all match. Not only would we be likely to score eventually, but that would be pretty sapping for the confidence of the opponent.

Meh, Neil Warnock once called El Hadji Diouf a "Sewer Rat", and signed him a year later. My point is there's not much that cant be forgiven when money's on offer. Also I dont see how loads of Agent's turning up at his door is our fault, 1 Agent maybe, doesnt make sence that we'd send loads of different Agents. I think he just got overawed by the whole situation.

Maybe we sent Steffen Freund and the sight of him jumping up and down outside his upstairs window creeped him out?

JJ says we haven't approached him again yet, taking into account his apparently outraged comments last summer and the fact that this is a classic Ligue 1 Wenger purchase, I'm not sure how successful we'll be.
Really hope I'm wrong here though! :cautious:

I can't stand shit like this. He wore crystal boots. He also said it was because growing up he loved Michael Jackson and he always loved the flashiness of his style. He didn't do it to flaunt his wealth at all. The interview he did as a result, because of backlash similar to yours, was eye opening and made me look at it in a much different light.

He didn't make a racist remark, he didn't bite someone, he's respected on the pitch and doesn't flash a mean streak while playing. If the worst thing PEA ever does in his life is wear diamond-encrusted boots, then I'd say he led a pretty decent life.

Get off your high horse.

To say Aubameyang's rise has been glittering is quite literal. Before a match against Lyon in the winter, he warmed up in a pair of green boots that were encrusted in £2,500 worth of Swarovski crystals.

"What I like are colours that flash," he told L'Equipe. "It comes from Michael."

Michael who, you might ask? "Michael Jackson!" Aubameyang replied. "Since I was a kid, I immersed myself in his music. Father would put MJ on and I'd dance. I still watch his clips and concerts every day. He always had something shiny on. It's a style. I like the flashy side."

After celebrating a goal in a Spider-Man mask, maybe the "fashion victim" Aubameyang will next be seen pulling on one of Jackson's sequinned gloves. Who knows? But joking aside, the Saint-Etienne striker doesn't want to be categorised as a show-off.

"It's true, I earn a lot of money," Aubameyang told L'Equipe. "But I have worked really hard to get where I am today and still am ... You can't judge a person when you don't know them. Some are big-headed, perhaps, But a footballer can also like clothes and big cars and be nice and intelligent, too. You can be flashy like me and stay humble."

Aubameyang describes himself as a country boy, simple and down to earth, unsophisticated even, who likes to be surrounded by his family. He claims to prefer the textile town and his family home of Laval in the northwest to the glamour of Saint-Tropez in the south of France.

Extroverted though he may be, Aubameyang does at least appear grounded. Again, that probably comes from his father and the wisdom he has passed on from his own experiences in football. They'll be important in deciding what his next steps are.

lol he's basically bedazzled his boots and Michael Jackson was a twat too

if one of our players bedazzled his boots there'd be carnage.....

crystals or diamonds have no fuckn place on footy boots plain and simple

He's a great player and we should definitely go in for him, exactly who we need for a fluid front three, or winger, or to lead the line. Pace, strength, eye for goal...and I think people are missing the point that he also put a Spiderman mask on...seems like a good lad to me. He'll be coming into his best years very soon, and I'd hate for Chelsea or Citeh to pick him up.

Would have thought there were rules against putting shit like that on players sportswear, and it makes him a flash git, but wouldn't stop me wanting us to sign him.

Arsenal don't need him though. They already have Ox, Walcott, Podolski to fill the wing forward requirements.

City on the other hand would be in need, however I can't see them going for him over a bigger, more polished talent.

I vote to move Lennon on for this guy..

Lennon's place in the starting 11 is definitely up for grabs I reckon. I really like Lennon, and we miss him big style when he's injured, but we need more goals and more assists from him. Hope we can keep Lennon and buy a new wide forward as well.
