There is a part of me that feels CV would be a better for for our style of play. Yes a WW or AM would offer different things, but my gut says CV would do well for us. Hopefully Benfica need the money.

can't see how we afford both CV and Milan, especially as we are really struggling to sell our deadwood

Their top scorer from one of the worst Benfica sides in ages, and a team that just sold their prized academy possession for a huge fee?

Does this feel like January came early to anyone? We’re playing with Fire here.

I think the Southampton match showed us the template for how Jose would like to set up when possible. Low block, draw teams onto us, then hit them on the counter with the No. 9 holding up the ball and feeding it into our excellent collection of wide forwards.

Vinícius for me suits that role down to a tee. His past as a midfielder is evident from his videos, you can see the clever link-up play he brings. He also presses like a demon so would be suitable on days where we have more of the ball and adopt a high press such as today, and at 6’3 could serve as a “Plan B” target man as well.

Really hope this comes off and taking Trix’s ITK into account you’d think we must be fairly optimistic that they’re willing to deal or else we’d have moved onto other targets surely.

Agree, but for that to work out midfield needs to be the right balance of willing runners but also technically sound to execute a counter.
Sissoko has the work rate, but not the technical skills. I thought the balance today looked better, with Hojberg offering the sitting presence, Winks was able to play with his head up more, but we are only a Hojberg injury away from being back to Winks sitting as the DM. That doesn’t work so well.
Lamela and Dele aren’t cut out for the WF roles due to a lack of dynamism in comparison with Son, Bale, Moura and Bergwijn, not to mention thats 4 players for 2 starting roles already.
Anyhow, that’s digressing a bit. But yes, I agree, the CF we need should be a willing worker with strong presence and mobility, technique and good interplay skills. I’m less worried about them being and out an out goal scorer, as Son, Bale etc are more than capable of that, given the right service.

Same agent as Doherty and Mourinho. Hope our interest in the player is based on his ability to help the team and not on his association with a particular agent.

But it does help to have a relationship if the player is of quality.

Considering that Benfica now have sold Dias, the pressure to sell CV may potentially have been somewhat alleviated.

That's true but it depends on how much they are getting up front, I guess with City it could be high but I don't know, cash flow matters at the moment I think.

As has been hinted I do wonder whether the hunt for a forward (and possibly midfielder) will go on Mr Levy's poker face before Monday arrives. The transfer economy is going to be very strange for some time and there may well be deals to be had in the last few days of the window to exploit.

I think we’ll wait until the result of Thursday now before we make any moves. If we get through we’ll likely get one in for EL group games if not I think Levy will just wait till January as he’ll think we can get through next 3 months. Bale has given me a huge high this window but it’s very poor and reckless we didn’t get a striker in for tomorrow or thursday.

He’s going to be too expensive surely? Expectations need to be tempered.
I wouldn't rule out a loan with obligation to buy at 30/40m.

Even though they sold Luiz and Dias, Benfica still need a bit more cash and they are essentially down to selling either CV or Seferovic.

Seferovic will prob only go for about 10m and Vinicius isn't in Jesus immediate plans yet will fetch much much more money.

If Benfica are in a desperate situation they may feel a loan with obligation is their best way to have guaranteed funds come in, even if it's next year. And we get to put that spend onto next summer's.

DM saying he's close to joining on loan with an option to buy.

Was just about to post this. Given that this is the one who was under the radar for ages and Trix has really been bang on it with his itk this window, I reckon Vinícius is the first choice that we’re still pushing for. Would also tie in with Ally Gold saying that we’re close to someone but it’s sensitive, as this one link hasn’t been overly publicised since it first appeared.

I’d personally be delighted, I’ve thought since it first came out that this striker is the best fit for what we need.

This doesn’t surprise me just been on sky bet and he was 3/1 this morning now been backed into 10/11 so lots of money has been put on this today
