Assou Ekotto assurance on the ball with Danny Rose aggression. Great signing, we need to keep him fit for the full league program and we'll be ok.

It’s funny. A really highly respected Italian journalist said that he’d be back in Italy in January as he can’t play left back.
And, as soon as Ange was announced, Udogie's agent was worried about his playing time and was trying to get him out of the club.

And yet he's the perfect fit for how Ange likes to play.

He reminds me of when I first watched Alaba and Alphonso Davies when they first broke through. Maybe it's just because they all play LB but it's immediately evident that they were all playing at a level well above their experience, and that they could arguably play in multiple positions due to their ability - game just seems effortless.
I always preach patience with kids, and fanbases are too quick to claim brilliance in youth, but I haven't been this impressed, and excited, for a youth talent in some time.

I saw him a couple of times in Serie A last year and was impressed and could see he had a lot of potential. But I also saw some rashness and naïve defensive positioning/decisions.

The way he settled so seamlessly is mightily impressive.

There will be some more difficult moments for him this season i'm sure. But he seems to have all the attributes to develop into the best in his position; attitude and mentality, physical prowess with his speed, strength and stamina, technical ability with the ball at his feet, instinctive attacking positioning/runs, one on one duals (though he will be tested more than he has been)

I think the key to his future success is that Ange hasn't been coaching him to be the perfect left back, but to be the best Destiny Udogie he can possibly be. Ange tweaks the system to fit the players, not the other way round.

That's not true at all? His agent said he could play LB and that he wasn't sure what Spurs' plan was for Udogie.

I think Ali Gold reported that it’s his first language at home given Nigerian parents

And of course, because he has pulled out of the U21's, (and newly-installed Spalletti overlooked him at senior level) he is still eligible to play as a full international for Nigeria. So the Nigeria Soccer Rederation is happy (for now) at least.

Italy's loss will be Nigeria's gain if he ends up switching countries, although I would imagine this is unlikely.
