His end product for making over 50 appearances in the prem was utterly abysmal.

No surprise at all.

I think we're taking the hit and running for the hills....
Don't blame us for shifting him, just think it's reasonable value.

When you think back to that purple patch he had pre-covid it's mental to think he could be leaving for around £15m plus add ons.

That said he's clearly not got the hunger for the PL and Conte wants him out. We probably ended up paying less than expected due it going wrong so it's all relative.

PO on twitter, pretty reliable, has said he doesnt possibly see how we'd accept £15m for him. I dont see it either.

There's taking a hit and then there's having your pants pulled down.

He's played a lot of football for Villareal and been key in their UCL run. He is worth more than 15m.

All I can assume is that the add-ons are a large amount with a good amount tied to UCL qualification.

Couldn't care less what we sell him. One thing I do respect about Levy is he knows what a good deal for us looks like, so if he's happy with that fee then fine.

Garbage player for us. Get rid.

Good riddance, one of the biggest disappointments in recent year, so frail, often poor when fit and as previously stated quite obviously prefferred his international duties more than ours.

Probably be sell on and performance clauses included.

A little sad, as I thought he was going to be amazing for us - but he only showed glimpses of his ability and clearly never settled.

That's football sometimes.

I am amazed this fee is not higher. Whilst Lo Celso has flopped here, he has been a £50m CM, helped Argentina win their big cup last summer, and was Villarreal’s star player in their CL semi final run. Also, Villareal would have earned around £75M for that run so should have funds. I would have thought £30M was a more likely figure.

I’ve seen there is a percentage of future sale and lots of bonuses in there as well which explains the low fee. Get rid. However best of luck to him. No hard feelings even if he did put his country before us a few times. Just didn’t work out. Move on.

I suspect we will need to take a loss on him but not sure how much is acceptable. I hope teams like Valencia, Sevilla, Villareal, betis etc all get in a bidding war but it wont be at £50m or even £30m. Perhaps £20m-£25m.

The price of something is always going to be dependent on the market though.

If Villareal can only afford £15m and there are no other teams willing to pay higher, then either Lo Celso's value is £15m or we hold onto him.

If we hold onto him we probably won't play him.

So that's £150k a week (is that his wage?) more or less wasted.

Which is nearly £8m a year...which is also factored into the price.

Let's face it, if all the reported prices are correct, Lo Celso as of 28.05.2022 is a £15m player unless another club wants to pay a higher fee.

Quality player. Just signed for us during a turbulent time at the club and the pandemic made it hard to settle. If Poch hadn’t been sacked and the world hadn’t gone into lockdown I’m sure things would have turned out differently.

With the quality he has, and the fact every penny counts, no way should we be giving him away for any less than 30m. That would be scandalous.

Post covid the transfer market values have taken a big hit , so expectations have to be lowered on transfer values, transfermarket have him at around £20 m , probably about right .

Maybe all these things are plausible-but essentially all irrelevant. Poch did get sacked. Lockdown did happen and Lo celso did flop over here. He only flourished back in Spain so we have to be realistic.
£18m does feel low but it’s highly likely that the addons are both achievable and would make it closer to £25m - which I think is about right.

But it’s not £18m it’s 15-18m euros. Which could mean we only get £12m.

The issue I have with this is that we paid 42m based on his form in Spain. To be selling him back to a club in the same country for around half of that makes no sense. He’s proven he can be a great player in La liga and the Champions League so whoever buys him should pay accordingly.

it’s all speculation at this point though. I’ll make a proper judgement when more concrete info comes out.

Yes but he’s done very little in terms out out put there. They paid a loan fee too, and as we know due to player amortisation, it doesn’t mean we took a loss on him.
the guy needs to go, that fee will rise with bonuses take the money and invest it elsewhere. If we are swapping lo celso and 18-20m for eriksen on a free it’s a no brainier? That 18-20m can be the difference between getting our top striker target or not.
