Most dribbled passed player in all of Europe’s top 5 leagues....

I've said it before, for a DM he is far too easy to get past. Doesn't have the dynamism a modern DM needs. Too slow around the pitch to cover ground effectively and a player with half decent pace can knock it a yard past him and if off. I see him as a very useful member of the squad but honestly believe we need a better quality DM.

Tricky one as it's becoming increasingly clear that he's not capable of playing as a lone, sitting 6 given his propensity to charge about and press anything that moves, but equally he's not good or progressive enough on the ball to work alongside another holding midfielder as it'll likely just be too negative and hurt our build-up play.

Not sure where to go with him really.

I’ve been saying this for a while. When he’s fully fit he is great at picking up the right positions so he’s on the players toes to nick the ball. When he’s tiring he can be a liability. Sells himself too quickly in the tackle and easy to run past if he finds himself stranded upfield. He’s clearly fatigued after a long season. But personally I feel Skipp will displace him from the team next season. He can do everything Holjberg can do but with better technical ability, pace and athleticism.

Been thinking he’s the problem for a while. He’s not a total destroyer and he’s not mobile enough to be a bit of both. He isn’t creative in any form. (Which I know it’s not his game) he gives his all but our defence needs a Wanyama type In front.

It doesn’t do him any favors being run into the ground and being the only player who can execute something resembling a press.

I’m convinced the dribbled past numbers come from his wild jaunts into space for 25-75 balls that he always seems to lose. he is a bit of a headless chicken at times but for me it’s that his lack of agility makes him not the player he thinks he is. He should stay home more but I’m not convinced he is that Wanyama type player.

With Aurier going to PSG all but confirmed and Doherty probably our worst signing in the past 20 years, the KWP swap looks like it’s gone from a good decision to mistake.

fuck me, Hojbjerg underperforming. Who would have guessed in December. There are legitimately zero positives to this season.

He has looked good all season because of the dross he has come to replace. All respects but 99% of PL midfielders are better than Winks and Sissoko. His standard performance levels are quite average. However rather than sell PEH we need him around as a squad option.

Blimey I popped in here to grab a bit of positivity... out of desperation. Think I made a mistake. If Pierre is being trashed then there’s no hope. Christ he’s drawn blood for us and played with a passion completely absent from most others. Thumbs up Pierre.

He’s looking like the player I saw playing for southampton now.

Midfield is a huge problem, has been for years but I’m a broken record with that. He should be a rotation option with two better players.

Why is it that half of this forum changes their opinion on players every match? So reactive.

Hojbjerg has played every single minute for us in the Premier League, and another twenty-three games in other competitions - and he’s done it in a very demanding role, constantly chasing down the ball. Of course he’s tired, of course he’s not at his best.

When he’s fit, he’s got that extra bit of acceleration to win the ball more consistently.

Yes, that one stat about being dribbled past is bad. But it’s much less bad when you look at the context. He challenges dribblers at a greater rate than almost everyone else in the league - top 4% - and has played every single minute for a team often on the back foot. His stats for tackling are quite good - he’s in the top 10% for tackles attempted, and the top 9% for tackles won.

That all may be true but he’s a distant 4th amongst Dembele, Wanyama, and Parker in every way. I think rotating with Skipp will help him a ton, but a midfield where Hojbjerg is your best CM is a doomed midfield.

If we go into next season with the current midfielders then we are completely fucked. It is so light weight.
