He's been (surprisingly) solid and diligent defensively in our rear-guard efforts against Liverpool and City.

Beyond that though the only thing you can say is that he's been here two and a half years now, and he still plays with the expression that it's his first day - "little kid in the big city" style, staring wide-eyed in shock and awe and disbelief, and that he doesn't really belong there.

Until he gets rid of that hang up - and it's a fucking big hang up you have to say - finds some confidence and rids himself of that timidity then it's impossible to say what his potential is and what he can offer. Nothings happening until he releases the handbrake.

The thing is he's featured against the two best sides in the league and we've got the better of both via performance/result.

Another thing which I found odd was his celebrations. If you watch it closely it was almost like he didn’t feel part of the team. Not sure how to describe it, think people have already made some good observations about his mentality/confidence/personality - fits right in with that.

I did see a Rob Guest article when we scored to 2-3 Sess sprinted and jumped in with Conte and the staff as he was just subbed.

His face, that rabbit in headlights look, may just be how he looks. I thought Mahrez looked the same yesterday. When he stepped up for the pen he looled like little boy lost, on the verge of tears. Think its just those sad puppy eyes lol.
You don't get to where these players are unless you're confident in your own ability.

But we need a world class LWB who will propel us into the top 4 and hopefully a title tilt now.

Sessegnon is for me an example of the way the club lost its direction in the transfer market. Spending £30M for an unproven teenager whose best position was not even clear was really not clever. If he'd been a £5M signing (like Dele was) it would be understandable, and in the bracket of signing players like Dawson and Reid, or Davies and Etherington, or Dele and Dier. For £30M we could have got Grealish the summer before last.
IMHO I believe he’s got the potential to be more of a threat in the final third than Reggie has.

He’s already demonstrated that he’s a better defender than Reggie.

Lots of what/ifs but like I said before he needs a run of games.

If Real Madrid want Reggie back for £33M in the summer and we can sign a first team ready LWB for that money, and keep Sessegnon as back up then I'd be happy.

Timid is 100% the right word.

If we are going to push for anything next year, this kid (22 soon) has to either really step up over these next two months or be replaced. IMO both our wingback positions need a purchase in.

I wanna know what has happened in the left wing back part of the changing room that leaves both of them looking like they don't believe in themselves. They both possess the ability to be fantastic players. They both possess the technical ability to produce great output in goals and assists but both Sess and Reg look like two players where you can see the gears turning in their minds. I'm really interested to know if they can overcome it.

Thought he did well. Got targeted a couple of times by the likes of De Bruyne just barging through him without any attempt to play the ball, but didn't let it daunt him. Picked himself up and went again. Good to see. ?

the lad needs a run of games, he did well yesterday but you can tell he doubts himself when it comes to crunch attacking or defensive situations. He needs to play regularly so he can show himself he belongs. I think he carried himself well and he definitely has more about him than Regi both defensively and offensively. I would love for him to show it & make himself a success here!

He's better at picking out players with his crossing. He's 'smarter' in that regard. Reguillon tends to lash at the ball a bit more and doesn't always get a clean connection. Sessegnon is technically better and more intelligent in this regard.

But Reguillon is better at getting himself into those situations due to his aggression and speed.

People keep talking about his great technique but there isn't any evidence of it at this level. I have seen nothing to suggest he has anything but average ability, again, at this level.

Yes ok Rose at 21 was nowhere but that doesn't mean anything. Rose also hadn't had the sort of hamstring injuries Sess has. Rose was a very determined person, with Sess looking timid and scared.

Sess may come good and that would be great. But I find people talking about his qualities as fact and proven at this level very weird. He has everything to still prove and don't get me wrong I hope he does.

Spot on it's confidence. He certainly has the physical attributes and technical skillset to be a very competent premier league player. People need to remember what Bale was like before he suddenly gained that confidence, he spent most of the match touching his hair and looking lost. I'm not saying Ryan will go on to the heights of GB, but he has the potential to emulate the career of someone like Danny Rose!

I actually hope he will be a lot better than rose. Rose was a very good player and prob a better athlete. Ryan has shown against Liverpool and city what a good defender he can be. I think he has potential to be a lot lot better going forward with confidence and his 21

I have a feeling he’ll come good at LWB for us
Plenty of room for improvement. One of his attributes that stood out for me when he was at Fulham was he had no nerves in front of the opposition goal. The opposite of that is someone like Sissoko who gets a nose bleed if if he gets in the opposition penalty area. Unfortunately we have seen none of Sessegnons coolness in front of goal so far.

At 21 years of age the likes of TAA and Reece James were regular starters for their clubs, had won the ECL as well as being England internationals. Yes players mature at different ages, but the two I have mentioned are at the level we should be looking at our players being when they are 21. Not a criticism of Sessignon, more a general observation that the top teams don't use age as an excuse,, why should we?

This kid has all the physical attributes and skills Conte wants in a wingback. Conte and Sessegnon know it too. If anyone is going to ‘suffer’ under this manager it’s Sessegnon but there’s a chance he’ll come out of it the best wingback in the country - if he stays fit. Its all about mentality now and taking the knocks.

I remember Gareth Bale as a youngster not being able to take a knock and be willing to play through it. It took Harry Redknapp to recognise that and literally ignore his pleas to come off the field. To me it’s a similar issue with Sessegnon- he needs toughening up, tough love if you like. Up to him now.
Gareth Bale signed for us at 18. Went straight into the first team for first game of the season away to Man Utd. Played left back and was near enough the best player on the pitch. He played first 9 games, scored 3 goals then got a bad foot injury and was out for nearly 12 months.
Gareth Bale was nothing like Sessegnon.
Mind you Gareth is still a bit soft.
