It’ll be interesting to see what happens if we sign a LB who has slightly more pace and mobility than a reversing cargo ship (sorry Ben).

3 CBs, Doherty and Reguilon as WBs, two CMs and a front three?

That would play to Doherty’s strengths, Davies could be used quite effectively as one of three CBs, Sess could deputise in the LWB role, and reducing our number of central midfielders to 2 from 3 reduces our obvious shortcomings in that area.

That all seems to make too much sense in my head, someone please tel me what I’m getting wrong.
The reaction when we play Reguilon as left wingback and Davies as left centre back

I would love team like that, the CMs would not need to be too Defensive either

Sounds good to me. But I'd almost wonder if we're still in for a CB if that's the plan. We've got Toby, Dier, Sanchez, Davies and Tanganga. If Foyth and CCV don't have a future we could still push the button on the Korea guy...

EDIT: Using 3 CBs also creates more opportunities for Foyth and Tanganga, presumably

The best part of your comment is the fact that is possible. Jose always seems more open to changing shape and tactics depending on the opponent, and with the current squad it felt very limited in terms of what we could do. I've always thought it's been a weakness for us in the past, we need to be able to play 5 in the back one match then switch to an attacking 4 against a bottom team at home, etc.

That makes it sound a bit like this is a player on the "Bergwijn list" that rebrab mentioned in the Leon Bailey thread. A young player who we rate highly and have kept tabs on who we move for because he becomes available, not necessarily because we set out at the beginning of the window to sign him. Very happy to see us being proactive by making moves for the players our scouts rate when they become attainable, whether or not this comes off in the end.
Ally Gold said it was exactly that about 2 weeks ago or so.

We could play Lo Celso as one of the front three, his attacking contribution with Betis was phenomenal. That would give us the added flexibility of switching between 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 as necessary during the course of the match without making a substitution.

Ben Davies hearing we are making a genuine attempt to sign fellow countrymen Gareth Bale:

I just completed the SC Meltdown challenge...no ‘new’ posts in the Bale, Reguilon or ITK threads. I’ve been flicking between those 3 faster than Ron Jeremy with 3 cheerleaders and finally I got ahead of all you suckers! ?

Yeah I just edited in a remark on JF And JT at the end, we would presumably need 5-6 CBs in the squad if that was our long term strategy
