Personally today again reaffirmed my previous feelings that we shouldn’t retain Werner. Not because he was bad or did anything wrong, more that with his skill set he was never really going to do much against a low block. His forte is very much fast countering when there is space ahead of him. He excells in open games not when there is little to no space for him to operate in.I would keep one of Werner/Gil/Soloman to leave space for one more key attacker to be signed and I think we're set up top. Aside from maybe one more 10 central. So far Werner is in the lead between the 3. Soloman has to have a run of fitness and do enough to change that. Gil needs a miracle.
When looking at our current WF options probably the only one who might be useful in situations like the one we faced today is Solomon and he has been out almost the whole season. Personally i think we need to be going into next season with two players, one on each wing, that are capable of putting defenders on the back foot even if they are set. They don’t need to both be starters but we need to have at least two options in that mould. The big question is if Solomon can get and stay fit. If he can then great, we only need one WF but if he can’t be relied upon then we need two IMO.
Werner, as I said in a earlier post, looks a very solid squad player who would be useful. I still think he has room to grow in this system and maybe he explodes in the last few games. But even so I just don’t think he is a profile that we are lacking or particularly need.
