 'Arry said in his post match interview that a lot of people (I took it he meant the backroom staff) wanted to go defensive and 4-5-1, but he just prefers to attack and that is why he likes a 4-4-2.

On topic: If we want 2 players per position, and assuming the main plan is till for Luka to play on left midfield, one of Diarra and Muntari would make 4 central midfielders. Think I would prefer Diarra, but could live with Muntari.
Most important point, as I said on another thread about players in in the summer, I would like to see the squad kept pretty much intact, sell the deadwood, and make one real marquee signing. A top notch striker would probably be what the team needs most to improve. Have no spefic names, but someone that can compliment our other strikers, AND someone that can actually power headers in from Bentley's superb crossing (when he finally gets them in:grin:), because that has been the main problem since Aaron got crocked: viz. Bentley slows play down, but when he does get a cross in it is usually quality, but there is no Santa-Cruz type forward in their to power onto them.

I’m sure he does love 4-4-2. But we will need to be able to play 2 systems next year, like the top sides do. He knows this. This is why he is after players that can play in both systems. Bellamy, Altintop, Pienaar, Diarra, Muntari. All these players that have been strongly linked can do just that. We also have many players already that could- Modric, Hudd, Lennon, Bale, even Bentley. Flexibility is key in modern day football. That's why so many debates about people's best position aren't that important I don't think.

We will see both systems next year is my bet. I love the way he builds a squad. I genuinely see why he is after every player we are linked with.

welll i think we need to off load few players first especially midfield area

def to go for me is jenas , o hara, santos, and maybe even bentley, so thats def three midfielders off top of my head to replace. we def need bit of strength . power and drive from middle of fiel. have no idea what sandro is like but u cant expect 20 yr old brazialian to come in straight away and be right at it. always suspected diarra was on harrys radar and even more so now. he wud be good signing. not sure on muntari but maybe thats as a back up if diarra falls thru?

i think we should go for an out and out pacy winger as possible replacement for bentley or not. i wud like ashley young or even ejia guy from hamburg looks ok.. david silva wud be champ league signing though!!!!

30 mill+ striker well have no idea who that could be.. nned that big player to take us up a notch.. i mean all the chances we missed last night before we scored.. same old story , just cant fisnsh teams off but all be it deserved we really should have been ahead by time we scored. a top notch center forward is needed i feel even though i was impressed by crouch last night.. he is a nuisance and threat in air as well as ground and above all is a great team player

i think maybe 3 signings in summer

central midfield. winger. striker.. and if woody is forced to retire then i suspect central def to come in .

as well as midfielders mentioned i expect hutton and keane to leve for def

wud also love to see some of kids push thru and given chance.. rose, bostock and parrett.. we have to create chance for them to get thru and give them game time so buying players for sake of it when we have players already might not be right thing

We're not getting Dzeko. Please can people forget about this?

I think for most "Dzeko" is just a codeword for any top quality, tall, strong, mobile centre forward who can attack the box and hold the ball up effectively. He's the only one we can think of who isn't already at a Champions League club so he goes down. I don't actually believe we'll sign him.

Do really. See you soon Edin.

Since we always sign a player that I've signed on FM or FIFA we will definitely sign Dzeko.

That or Bryan Ruiz. Yay Bryan!

Dude, you're thinkin of Lyon left back Ahly Cissokho (spelling?) whereas this was about Momo Sissoko (once of Liverpool, now Juve) either way that was a mistake anyway, this dude meant Muntari.

 I want Cissokho not Momo

Another centre midfielder in that type of mould (diarra), would be great for the squad.

We need that strength in depth if we are to carry on and move forward to challenge on both fronts.

We are in a very unique position to spend money to improve on a squad, that should have been challenging for the title this season (wolves/stoke/villa/everton games etc).

Our squad is good, and looking at the bench last night, was awesome to see, but we need better quality in depth.

Fuck the likes of o'hara.... we need proper quality, midweek games and big weekend games.

No overauling of the squad - definite.

Keep most of the squad together - also a definite.

'Dead wood' to get rid of? Don't really see that many players that will be jettisoned - JJ (very probable), O'Hara (possible), Keane (possible), Bentley (improbable), Pav (now doubtful)

One thing to bear in mind is that we have two very, very important priorities next season - League performance and the Champions League.

We have to, have to, maintain or improve our League standing and finish in the Top 4 again. That has to be the Holy Grail for next season. To get in once and then fail to replicate it will be damaging to the club - players both on the books and off will not see us as genuine contenders if we can't get back in. And players such as Modric and Bale (even if they are on long contracts) may be far easier to land by other clubs if we can't offer them CL football again.

The CL is also important in order to generate revenue for the club, allowing us to offer higher wages and attract higher calibre players.

With that in mind, would four CMs -Palacios, Hudd, Modric (nominally), and Sandro be enough?

If Palermo don't beat Sampdoria Cavani is a classsy player that wouldn't cost massive amounts. A calcualted risk.

I would want to see a fast CB comfortable on the ball the share the Burden with King. Bassong is not the answer for me. Kaboul Maybe but at the next level up i think we need someone better than both.

Good points as usual Rez.

I have a feeling we'll be looking at a more flexible line up next year, with the option to have a 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 (however you want to look at it) using an attacking V in midfield with a lone striker.

With the right forward, we could easily utilise 3 central players. Two defensive, one more forward e.g. Modric/Eidur.

I guess it all depends on what Sandro brings to the table aswell. Either way, i'd be happy with the additional tactical flexibility but completely agree, we need to keep a strong, united set of players to continue the good work done this year.

Either way i'm massively positive
