Against West Ham at around 80 minutes I committed the cardinal sin of looking at the table and admiring how good it looked to see us in 2nd place with a goal difference of +10.

No wonder it all went to shit.
I used to have a system of not even looking at the table until ten games in. Because before then it really isn't at all accurate in being able to make much out of it. Sample size is simply too small to really see a pattern. This season I'm checking it way too often.

Both Newcastle and Wolves struggle to create clear cut chances (Newcastle, 20th, with 2.4 shots on target a game, Wolves, 18th, with 3). This is going to be a slog isn't it...

It's been a bit better than I expected, but not much.

I think the fact that Newcastle are playing about 20 wingers and don't seem to have anyone who can just put their foot on the ball and pick a pass has added an element of chaos to the game and allowed Wolves to be a bit more attacking that usual.

Sure, newcastle are also playing with quite compact, sort of inviting wolves forward. But game seems evenly poised really. Newcastle's tactics this season seems to be try and stay in the game as long as possible and hope something somewhere happens.

Agree. We never once had the chance to cut their lead down to 1 pt by playing first. It was always they took their lead to 7pts so we had to win to get it back to 4.
Massive psychological difference.
Was a joke really. So unfair.

The 3 MNFs was an utter stitch up. Hasn’t happened to a team before or since.

Has normal service resumed?

Far less goals this week and no crazy games to speak of. Seems teams have settled down and remembered how to defend (a bit).
This was always going to be dull, neither newcastle nor Wolves have been up to much entertaining this season so far.

While there have been no crazy games this weekend so far, I think what I have watched have been fine.

Yeah this is textbook Wolves tbf. They're usually dull as fuck in the first half. And as you say, Newcastle have been dire this season too.

2nd half will probably still be dull but they'll push a bit more. Would be silly not to against this Newcastle side.

To give credit to newcastle, while they do look directionless they actually can defend fairly effectively. Thing is, I think Wolves won't be up to much this season, reckon they will finish bottom half. Had a bizarre transfer window and I think it'll hurt them.

Wolves struggle a lot to attack. They've scored 5 goals this season, Newcastle have more on 7. This is a lower mid table clash as far as I'm concerned. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Newcastle today. Though it could go either way.

If Wolves don't win in the next 40 minutes and the Arse draws Leicester, we're up to 4th with a win tomorrow.
