Yes, but then pawson should have awarded sterling a pen earlier on. I think he thought there was contact from dacoure's leg and so awarded the pen. var didn't overrule as there was the little pull, as you mentioned. Not a chance pawson would have given it had chilwell stayed in his feet. So essentially chilwell dived and made the ref make a decision.
Well that probably says more about referees never giving penalty kicks when players don't go down. It's a blatant holding foul that slowed him down and interfered with him attacking goal. But we know if he didn't go down it would never be called.

Agree that refs don't give those fouls often in the box. But I think it goes toward a wider discussion of what is written in the laws vs what is expected to be given by players/managers, especially in the Premier league. Players obviously expect to be able to grapple for position. We, as fans, expect it to be allowed. And refs allow that grappling inside and outside the box - often allowing more in the box as they are reluctant to give 'soft' penalties. That's why I think pawson guessed there was contact from dacoure's legs.
