Ramos came out on Saturday and said that Hutton had a great game and will offer a big improvement in one of our weaker positions. Chimbonda must have been pleased to read that ! Or did he mean LB is even weaker since he switched Chimbs to play there ?

actually I thought PC played pretty well - though he'll never be a top LB - but am impressed by his attitude recently on the pitch anyway - well done Pascal :)

I think he can be good CB cover too

I think he ment full-back rather than right-back as he's said that he likes his full-backs to be able to play on both sides. We have only 3 full-backs fit at the moment. So he's probably right.

Think he meant the squad - that if Chimbonda got injured then the only experienced player (he clearly didn't rate Salty and moved him on) to fill in would be Lee - but he's playing on the left with Bale injured. Gunter perhaps not considered ready to play in all of the big games yet

I have a feeling that Ramos actually rates Chimbonda. Maybe just not his attitude sometimes. Like him or not, hes better than lee and salty and can fill in at centre back if needs be. A danger from the setpiece, and at his best, capable of match saving tackles.

The other question is whether PC will want to stay if he is asked to play mostly at LB. Still as long as the pay cheques keep coming in I guess he will put up with that.

one thing while the hutton subject is being raised - there's the usual debate on 606 about why did Hutt go to a smaller club blah blah blah

a point I haven't seen made though is surely regardless of who has the most fans - Hutton will actually be seen by more people playiing for Spurs than Rangers cos of worldwide prem coverage - not just of the games on Sky TV (UK) but the rest that goes out on various satellites computer streams etc

You make that sound like Lee doesn't normally play on the left... and is backup to Bale.

True...it will definately raise his profile. The same could be said about Huttons coverage in the champs league though. All in all, even if your leaving behind europe for a non europe playing prem team, the standard will be higher with the better quality down here.

Chimbonda is a very decent footballer so to claim hutton is better already at the age of 23 is a big claim and also a bit of a cheek.

There's no cheek in suggesting that the Tottenham and Scotland fullback, who's in the last 12 months made some of the biggest names in football look silly, is better than a right back who's vastly overrated, and not really great at anything. Except jumping.

To be fair, we do play in Europe fairly regulaly these days, be it the UEFA Cup rather than the CL.

Hes improved the whole defence, as well as Gunter and Woodgate..
I look forward to seeing a lot more clean sheets for the rest of the season!

I agree. He rested Chimbo the Saturday before the CC semi so obviously didn't want to take any chances with him, and when a new RB comes in he moves him to the left rather than drops him or sells him.
This would certainly suggest Ramos thought he was our best full back before the arrival of Hutton so I should imagine Ramos was talking about full backs as opposed to just right backs.
Which would mean more of a dig at Lee and Stalteri than Chimbo.

I wonder whether when Gilbo's eligible, Chimbo will slot in beside Woody.

Hutton Chimbonda Woodgate Gilberto

We have so much cover/versatility (and thus competition) now at the back.

LB: Lee, Bale, Gunter, Gilberto, O'Hara, Chimbonda, (Berchiche), (BAE)

RB: Chimbonda, Hutton, Gunter, Tainio, Zokora

CB: King, Woodgate, Dawson, Kaboul, Rocha, Huddlestone, Chimbonda, Zokora

What defensive crisis??!
