Ref MOTM.

We’d be livid if we were on the receiving end of those decisions and their implications.

Off day for most - Bentancur especially so.

Feels like we didn’t press well and simultaneously couldn’t get past their press.

Need a creative midfielder pulling the strings in the middle so desperately.

Fortunate and fantastic result, all things considered.

Chelsea showed their quality and we struggled to live with them for long periods of the game.

Positives is the team will learn from that and hopefully push on.

Chelsea were good but quality no…they had 3 scent chances and lloris didn’t need to make a save…yes they were better but that’s because of us more than their quality imo

Blue Scum pushed mount into the middle so our two for badly outnumbered, so while not great, a tough assignment, not helped by some atrocious balls from our defenders to them. Yet, a fantastic tackle before our first goal from Bent and Peh scores it.
Though Son and Kane were poor, Son esp poor at tracking back, Kane makes up for everything with what feels like a winner and Son wins the ball for first goal.
Thought Dier had a good first half, but some of his distribution is rank awful and often invites pressure.
Davies poor, has and will have better days.
Royal much improved on last yr again today.
Romero looked off the pace, but his shithousery plays it's part in the end.
Think Richy made the difference, brought pace, fight and changed it along with Bissouma and Perisic.
Got away with one today, but have to hand it to the team for fighting until the end.

Interesting that people think we were very lucky. I mean we were lucky but xG wise 2-2 was the correct result.
Probably more so the fact that our goals were so controversial and the ref’s prominence. But 100% chance balance was quite even.

We were lucky that they seemed content to win by 1 goal, the didn't actually create much when they were 1-0 up but they clearly absolutely dominated us and we couldn't get the ball off them. then as soon as we equalised they created 2 massive chances for Havertz and James with the 2nd one being scored. Then we had the big chance right at the end which we can consider fortunate after the hair pull incident.

One of our other biggest chances was for Sessegnon as well which I think would have been offside if VAR had reviewed.

XG really doesn't tell the story of the match.

I mean it is relative nonsense but in terms of chances. Just chances Chelsea didn't have significantly better ones than we did. They had pressure. But pressure counts for very little.
I still disagree, though. Their chances were much better than ours and more numerous. IMO.

The game was far from balanced. We got away with a draw
Yes I agree 100%. But the chances weren’t actually dramatically stacked in their favor. They carried 100x our threat in the build up I agree and on the balance of play we got dominated. But Koulibaly set piece goal vs Kane set piece goal. James 1v1 to Kane’s. Havertz’s sitter to Sess’ tougher chance. Sterling’s chance to Højbjerg’s goal. The clear opportunities weren’t completely one sided. They got the better of us there as well but the domination was in the build up and the press, not so much the end product.

Gave it to none deserved. Because let’s be honest. We didn’t deserve it. And we’re terrible. But hey. One point better off.

So we were lucky that Chelsea decided to sit on it? That doesn't seem like luck. That seems like a strategic blunder on their part.

It doesn't tell the story of the match no. But we had three very clear chances, we took none of them. The sess one I'm not convinced at all that it was offside but in any case this was a much closer performance than previous games against Chelsea.

The hairpull I didn't catch but tbh there was a whole lot of crap going on by both players in those corners. Even the 'controversy' over our first goal grates on me. Yeah, it probably was a foul but those things are not given constantly in a football game and it didn't directly lead to the goal at all.

I know some fans like to make excuses for conceding poor goals so a decision not going your way then becomes 'the reason' you conceded a goal. But I always have seen that as abdicating responsibility. Chelsea conceded both goals because they didn't defend them well enough, and we took those opportunities. It's as simple as that. What the ref does or doesn't do in this case had very little to do with letting in perfectly defendable opportunities.
