tom huddlestone, raphael van der vart, gareth bale in central mid??

play with wingers, embrace the opportunities of not having to wedge players into the wrong positions.

Then what happens when the next player wants to leave ie Bale? we need to make a stance, every player has a price yes but it has to be right for the club and it's fans. Selling Luka Modric to a rival who imo ain't that far off Spurs in terms of player quality is just stupid and sends out the wrong message to football our player, they'll all be looking to move, THFC will always be in flux.

Isn't Turan off to Athletico Madrid in exchange for Forlan, Reyes and someone else?

Can I ask why most people are suggesting wide midfielders/wingers?, Modric plays centre mid....

anyway, replacement for modric? no need for one, as he will be a spurs player come 1st september.

Shift the creativity/awareness further up the pitch.

What about

Marek Hamsik
Stefan Jovetic

And affelay wants out at barca

only Hamsik is a midfielder, but I for one don't think we need to directly replace Modric anyway. So I will be happy with Jovetic and Affelay as both will improve us. Jovetic has the potential to be a world beater, but has missed a whole season through injury so would represent a risk. Affelay is a good player who has always impressed me as well.

Unless you play Jovetic as the lone striker (and while I thin he has the right attributes to do this he needs to pick up his goal rate) he will probably not start but be a vital player for rotational purposes, can cover for VdV can play forward in a 4-4-2, he will be a useful player

Affellay has always looked a player when I have watched him, again could play in VdV position as well as the two winger positions. Would be useful although again he will have to battle for a first team starting spot.

I'm sure I've seen Jovetic play centre mid and he was quality

Deffo wouldnt mind Javier Martinez CDM from Spain's u-21s

Still 100 percent fancy a midfield of this to play away vs people like united and Chelsea

I want to see Levy show Modric his ambition for the club and make Luka believe he can achieve the same things with us he could achieve at Chelsea.

Rooney was hell bent on leaving Man U, Sir Alex showed him UTD was the place for him to be and they went on to win the league at a canter and lose CL only to arguably the best team of all time.

I want to see Levy tell Modric to give us one more season to prove our position and I want Levy to go all out to show that we can push for the title, win the Europa league and become a top side year in year out.

To do this Levy needs to go out there and make two or three top class signings!

I said all along this summers transfer window will show us all we need to know about our clubs real position and ambition. If we let our best player go to a bigger team even though we have 5 years on his contract it only illustrates we accept we are on a lower level than the likes of Chelsea and Man U and always will be.

If Levy plans to make us a title challenger he needs to do what it takes to sign a world class striker, a hot prospect striker and an exciting attacking winger/forward who can cover and challenge Lennon/VDV/Bale.

A couple of squad fillers, center back and someone like Parker perhaps and keeping ALL of our top players. Anything short of this will only serve to prove to me that the fourth place we achieved and CL run we enjoyed is the glass window we will never be able smash.

Do or die for Spurs, put up or shut up. I already watched us fail to sign a striker we so obviously needed in Jan to secure CL football again and we all know we missed out as a result. If this window passes and we still don't have a top class striker, we have lost Modric without bringing in any stars of similar potential and quality I will simply believe we are forever destined to at best be a CL hopeful (and with the constant spending power of Man City and Liverpool's improvement it will more likely be a situation where top 5/6 is the extent of our potential year in year out.... like Villa, Everton and Fulham we will revert to being a Europa league chasing unit)

We are basically at the same junction as when Berba got sold to Man Utd. The difference is that Modric seems more likely to respect the club's wishes (great credit to him if he does) - so I agree with you that this is a timt to build and not sell. However there's simply a shortage of 20 goals/season striker. Everyone who has been mentioned is a massive gamble, and the worse situation is to end up with a striker-flop AND lose Modric next season. I don't think we can afford this sort of risk so it's probably better to think 'what if' - and try our hardes to keep Kranjcar cuz he is the most likely sqaud memember to fill Modric's offensive game.

Let's look at the options... plenty of players have been mentioned in this thread who could most certainly do a job.

For arguments sake, Modric goes and we get Sturridge and 20m - we take a massive step towards sorting out our striker dilemna and 20m means we could have Parker and a serious stab at the next big thing... Alcantara, Martinez, Xerdan or Erikssen (back on loan for one year).

It's good to think of the options, it reaffirms we're still well and truly in the driving seat here.

Sturidge is soo overrated his touch is awful! And he's so selfish a left footed Defoe he reminds me of

Saw a player in the Championship who reminded me of a cross between Luca and Smurfy ; S****horpes Chris Dagnall .

Obviously Spurs couldn't take a chance on him but he runs the show .

Was playing a striker when I saw him but heck of a play maker . One to keep an eye open for .
