I don't understand where we don't pay up for Benteke but we do pay up for Soldado unless Villa were firm with their £25m in full immediately and Valencia are more realistic on that front.

There you go, answered my own question.

It's likely down to paying near our evaluation of the players. It sounds like our evaluation of Benteke was far off from that of Villa's, where-as we seem to be hitting it pretty close to Valencia's evaluation of Soldado. I'm not so sure that Levy has a problem with spending money, so much as he is a shrewd businessman who intents to not have his money over-spent.

Soldado is world class, Benteke is potential

Soldado less of a gamble

So hopefully Soldados parents are fine with their son moving to England.

Maybe maybe. But it looks like "feeling home sick" is a common Spanish disease. David Villa eg.....
And I think it's really strange Jesus Navas decided to move abroad as well. He was so home sick so he started to feel bad when he left home for training......

I was gutted over Benteke and he was my first choice - but that was because I never thought for one minute Soldado was a realistic option.

We are going for proven quality here, and its quality of the highest kind. Yes its not in this League but the guy is proven end of. An absolutely staggering signing if we pull this off. The experience he has and bang in his prime...just can't believe it until its done!

In terms of age Soldado only turned 28 at the end of May. His style of play means he'll still be extremely useful when he's in his 30s. IF (and that's a big if) we get him we'll easily get at least three years out of him. In terms of the champions league success he could fire us towards, I'd say this deal could more than pay for itself.

I hate to say it mate but I've had a good look at that picture and there are slight abnormalities that make me think it could be fake.

And Soldado pisses all over Benteke...

I think one major thing, is that Soldado seems like a genuinely nice guy.

He has never angled for a move, he's always said he's happy to stay at Valencia as long as they want him there, even though they sell all their best players, and have no CL next season.

He's even reportedly waived his transfer bonus, as long as Valencia get it.

Which is in stark contrast to Benteke and his annual transfer requests.

Well as you may know, I was desperate for us to bring in Soldado instead of Benteke. Not really sure what I'd do if this deal actually happens...probably run down the street in my Spurs shirt and boxer shorts, doing a chicken dance and hugging strangers. :chicken:

I'm happy to admit I'm wrong but iirc in 10/11 we were reported to have made c30million from co revenue. The accounts for said period coincidently showed a c30million profit.

Again that might be my questionable memory but that's certainly how I remember it.

If you get a second have a read of this as we don't want to hijack the Soldado thread with financial convo. Cracking blog in general on football finances.

Really starting to think the alleged Liverpool interest was just a move to get us to up the ante.

Although I do think Suarez will go and they'll need a big signing to placate the fans.
