Agree with his comparison of Kane and van Nistlerooy, he reminds me of shearer, sheringham but recently most directly van Nistlerooy.

Great article, really.

Absolutely loved the last paragraph:
On top of that, I hear he takes time to watch the youth teams and the Under-21s play. I cannot tell you how important that is. Modern managers have a lot of demands on them and many feel, with justification, that they do not have the time to commit to watching the junior sides. But it makes such a difference to the mood at a club when the first-team manager knows every youngster by name. The manager I played under did.

Yes, confident without being arrogant. Unlike Maureen. Now 2 great ex-players have been singing Poch's praises in the last 2 days. Scholes and Keown,

Title sums it up for me. That's very rare not only in managers in the EPL, but just in general it seems in the UK and getting worse. Bunch of people arrogant for little reason.

High praise from a Premier League great (the best in the PL era IMO).

Nice to see Poch is getting some credit. For the way he has us playing, with such a young/inexperienced group of players and the way he conducts himself as well - it hasn't gone unnoticed.

My son, who's 10 and football obsessed, recently said something about Kane, which Scholes also mentions, and that is the comment about how he doesn't give the goalie a chance. My boy recently said often when Kane gets through to shoot he hits it hard, but well, without trying to place it, curl it, etc, and Scholes has said the same and I think that is something that shows just how good Kane is developing and how good he could be. He's unpredictable and therefore gives the goalie limited options to guess where he's going to place it.

Harry Kane doesn't remind me of any former player. Appears to have the attributes needed to become a top class striker in his own style.

Interesting what Scholes said about Mason. If Hodgson wants a more youthful team, Ryan could find himself getting a surprise England call.

It's always nice to hear a respected ex-player say nice things about your team and your manager!

Confidence without arrogance is precisely what we need in the team. So many times in the past we put in a stellar performance against a 'big' club, sometimes bagging the points, and then promptly undo all the good work with a poor performance against a lower team. Arrogance (or at the very least lack of focus) has cost us dear for such a long time.

I was relieved when I opened this thread.

I thought it was going to be some of the most disturbing porn I'd ever seen.

Good read and it echos a lot of my (less expert) thoughts on how we're doing under Poch.

Always nice to read something complimentary but it's still early days yet. This summer will hopefully be the next step in improving the playing squad and becoming a stronger as a team. I think once we can look at the bench and see players who we know buy into the philosophy and will produce in Poch's system, i think we'll really push on. At the moment there's still a handful of players who just don't fit what we're doing IMO.

I think we're starting to look set for that steady improvement which will see us compete and the club are unlikely to go for a dramatic spend/overhaul to rock that steady growth which is really positive.
