After our recent performances we must not get too carried away BUT the squad we have now assembled does look mighty mighty strong. Our defence has been reinforced, our midfield as a unit is creative and balanced and our strikers score goals for fun. Thinking realistically even though next year there is more chance we may break into the top4 but how many times have we heard that, and we may even win something, Berby is 27 atm and may well see it as a risk and look regrettably to leave for say man.u which would be just about fair enough. Therefore i was thinking about what he brings to the team etc, yes goals and assists but also holds the ball up brings others into play AND has great partnership with Robbie. All in all we'd miss him alot BUT I feel our squad is now luckily so strong that if we in summer lost Berby we'd be fine IF we bought say a goalie a back up winger and 2 strikers only 1 needing to be of some decent quality i.e Fred may well be the likely man. We could even perhaps fund a bid for Tiago with Berbys money. So our team could be:
Foster

Hutton Woodgate King Bale

Lennon Tiago Jenas Malbranque

Keane Fred

and for me that would be better than our current line-up which obviously includes berby.

Apart from him and perhaps king being permenatly crocked i see few future problems player wise and if we again in summer invest wisely only now needs to be in literally a few players and we are virtually as done as you can be, and our future would still look very lilywhite indeed :)

So if he stays then great, if not i still love our chances of doing something great.

Fucking get in there!

COYS!

views, could be still break top4 potentiolly and mabye win something with the kind of 1st 11 i've mentioned obv without Berby?

You're right, he's a wonderful player - but we've got to get into a position where we don't think that we revolve around one player. I think we're closer now than we have been for a while. Fair enough thread imo.

How do you figure Fred? Do you seriously think we'd go back in for Tiago after the way he and his agent pissed us about? Why have you got Bale at LB? What's happened to Gilberto?

Bizarre.

Fred is not the striker we'll be look at in the summer if we unload Berbatov. If Fred wasn't named Fred and wasn't Brazilian he wouldn't be nearly as highly rated.

I'm starting to think if we win something this season that berbie will stay. Manchester United don't need him so the only other club I can see him go to is Liverpool in the "top 4", and Liverpool really are quite poor by their standards this season, which may swing him. Hope we get Elmander if berbie does leave though.

FFS!!!

You obviously have no comprehension of just how important Berbatov is to this team.

I can't possibly see how Madrid won't come in for Berba.

Ramos won with Sevilla 5 cups without Berbatov. The success of the team depends on him, not on Berbatov.

On the other hand, having Berbatov in the team makes life a good deal simpler.

The Fred thing, at any rate, is a complete nonsense. It is really difficult to figure out what he and Lyon were playing out. Aulas stated publicly that Fred would be staying at Lyon because he couldn't make his mind up, and would be behind Benzema and Baros in the pecking order. Five minutes later, Baros is loaned to Pompey. You tell me what's going on.

Berbs leaving would be such a step back, a similar Carrick situation, a stepback thus far 3 transfer windows weve failed to replace

Definately need a couple of midfielders a decent 4th striker then our squads the nuts

To be fair the team Luke typed out wasn't the point of the post. You can substitute Foster/Tiago/Fred for a midfielder who didn't piss us about and a striker you think is good and then actually respond to what Luke was meaning, which was that even without Berbi, our squad is building to where it needs to be.

Noone is saying Berbi wouldn't be missed if he leaves and obviously our team with Berbi is strong than a team without, but I think Luke is meaning that losing him isn't the be all and end all - which I'd agree with - as long as replacements are brought in which can at least replace some of what Berb's give us and also strengthen other areas.

Having said that, lets keep Berbs and get a world stopping GK, blistering LW with a pin point accurate left peg and a hard as nails DM.

I said thats a realistic line-up IF we sold Berbatov. Seing as we were so heavily linked with Fred and supposedly agreed a fee then he'd be a realistic target. As for Tiago you most certaintly don't know the full details of that transfer and yes if we have a chance to get a top class player then i'm sure we'd go for it. Even if we didn't get Tiago someone of a similar quality would make my point.

As for your comments about my line-up you are crazy! when fit, Bale should be 1st choice LB for sure. He's a class act and will only improve in time. As for Gilberto have you even seen him play FFS? He sounds good yes but he is after all 31 years old and when both fit i'd probably still pick Bale. If you meant but Gilberto LB and Bale LM then mabye thats a good idea but having said that, steed has arguably been our best player this season so you can't leave him out. Strage unesseccary criticism mate.

I do, and i'm NOT saying i WANT him to go, BUT just happy that with our recent additions i'd be more confident if we HAD to let him go.

Hmm, good comparison to Carrick, never thought of it like that, looking at it like that it may be worse than i'd predicted. But you say we've failed to replace him in 3 transfer windows. IF we get a few midfielders and a decent 4th striker then if we just got a slight step-down from Berby we may still be able to cope :)

Main point is worst circumstance is losing our best player who we almost base our team around, and i'm just thinking it's good that we may be able to cope.
