To be fair the team Luke typed out wasn't the point of the post. You can substitute Foster/Tiago/Fred for a midfielder who didn't piss us about and a striker you think is good and then actually respond to what Luke was meaning, which was that even without Berbi, our squad is building to where it needs to be.

Noone is saying Berbi wouldn't be missed if he leaves and obviously our team with Berbi is strong than a team without, but I think Luke is meaning that losing him isn't the be all and end all - which I'd agree with - as long as replacements are brought in which can at least replace some of what Berb's give us and also strengthen other areas.

Having said that, lets keep Berbs and get a world stopping GK, blistering LW with a pin point accurate left peg and a hard as nails DM.
SPOT ON! :)
THANK YOU!

If only i could have put it far simpler in the first place lol. As you say the team i typed out wasn't the point, rather that we are now building a squad which is IMO so strong that EVEN if we lost Berby but carried on strengtherning like we did in Jan, aswell as getting a fairly close replacement for Berby then things would still look very good!

i understand the meaning of the post but the simple fact is berba is a league winning quality type player, just like gerrard and ronaldo and henry and drogba and, and to lose him would be a massive loss because we cant attract a proven player of this calibre, we have to unearth him like berba who was a frickin steal, remember we wanted kuyt!

if i was levy i would tell berba he owes us one full season under ramos and then he can go if it doesnt work out. he'll be 28 and still have four good years in him, more because of his style of play. he cant have not noticed how much better the team is and i get the impression berba's the type of player who would rather stay and make it big with tottenham if he knows they can do it rather than go glory hunting with man u, at least i hope.

Hmm great point actually. In that he's a 'league winning player' We've been saying for a while we lack a Terry,Ronaldo,Gerrard,Henry but Berby could well be that player and so keeping him would obviously be great. So glad we made the Carling cup final, there was a point when Jol was in charge at his lowest this season when you'd have thought Berby would 100% be playing for someone else next season but now we have alot more factors which could convince him to stay :)
1.Ramos
2.Caring cup final
3.Our impressive recent results/performances vs top4 (arsenal,Man.u-twice)-shows great potentiol.
4.signings-he may realise we could finally have a good defence.

SO yea hopefully he stays but as i say still wouldn't be end of world if he goes. Also have to remember 1st half of season he was fairly poor mabye lack of service but still looked out of sorts, and he's actually only scored what 8 goals in the league so as good as he is I think the value he brings is slightly over-rated and if we used his money to get a GK,CM and 2 strikers we'd be fine :) great thing is both worlds are good for spurs fans.

I hate to admit it but Berbatov is perhaps amongst the 5 most naturally talented footballers in the world, and it is a shame that we have wasted his first 1.5 seasons by not having a goalkeeper, defence and midfield that were not up to his standard. On the evidence of the last month we are finally getting our act together by signing players that have immediately improved our team and adopting a new style of play on the pitch, but I think it will take a win at Wembley and perhaps a European final to convince him to stay. I sincerely hope I am wrong though.

I have a frog freind out here in Australia who comes from Lyon, follows them madly and I said to him "Bet you are glad you helf onto Fred" he said quite frankly that Fred was a decent striker, nothing more, scores some goals (most strikers do) but his all round play is nothing special. He pointed out that if Fred left Lyon he would miss him less than I miss Defoe (which is a little but not fussed at all)

There is still a long way to go before the end of the season. We could conceivably end up with 2 cups and a top 6 finish, or a cup and a top 8 finish, or even no cups and relegation. Of course there are plenty of other possible outcomes.
It is not absolutely certain that Berbatov will leave, but I feel that only success this season will make him stay. He is a real talent, probably irreplacable for us in the short term.
The way I see it is this: Success this season means either he will stay, or we can spend the money we get from him on strengthening the team with real class players, including a quality forward.
If the CC final is as good as it gets for us (i.e. we lose that, bomb out of Europe and fail to make up ground in the league) then he will probably leave, and other players may go too. Fortunately we have a large and talented squad, so even if that happens I feel confident that we can push for Europe next season.

To the person who said Real Madrid will go in for Berba, I don't agree. Drogba was saying he wants to go to Real.

Its good to think ahead and Berby's departure will leave an enormous hole imo . Add to this that we haven't a brilliant midfielder and it looks to me like we could have a serious creativity problem .

Great strikers are the most expensive players of all and are usually unwilling to come to non CL outfits like us .

Finally , on the subject of Berby's departure , I'd point out that if we do superbly well and everything goes perfectly, the earliest we could possibly be lifting the CL cup is April/May 2010 .

Is Berby going to take this chance or start on a CL campaign in Sept with a favourite such as Real or Barca ?(plus triple his wages)

Which would you do ?

Interesting thread, I can really see the point. If Berbatov leaves in the summer, spurs are twice as ready to cope than the end of last season. But I really hope he stays, now that his effort up front won't be wasted in the next attack of the opposition. The way we outplayed Arsenal and United, got a clean sheet away to Everton makes me feel quite confident in the league.Ramos makes me feel good about UEFA and I'm sure we'll kill Chelsea at Wembley.COYS!

Berbatov is world class but if we could get 30+ million for him and if the guy wants to go in the summer anyway...so be it. It would be a big loss but he's not irreplaceable

There ARE other world class strikers out there who could do a job for us. Bringing them to the lane however is another matter alltogether

My vote: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

not getting too carried away BUT without berbatov your having a laugh ffs the man is a class player and if some people havent seen that by now they never will. money cant replace him some players you can, we should be glad he is playing for us and not another team

Wonderful player yes, how many sides have a forward with his talent? Very few. How many sides have a clinical and consistent forward? A lot more.

In my opinion no-one is goign to stump up anything like £30m for him.

Drogba might well want to go to Real but he will be 30 soon and Real already have the problem of RVN and Raul ageing.

The thing with Berbatov is that he can play in either RVN or Raul's roll and is the right age for Madrid.

Personally I think there is more chance of Real going for Berbatov than Drogba.

Does anyone here seriously think Berba is worth 2 Anelkas?

Hard question but a player is like a property in that he is worth what somebody is prepared to pay for him.

Is Anelka not worth as much as Bent?

Nani £17 million, Bent £16.5 million, Mascherano £17 million, Carrick £18 million etc

On that basis I figure that somebody is going to see Berba at value for that money.

anelka is there to get on the end of a move and score

berba is part of the move that creates the goal, for keane to score. berba is so much more than just a forward, he is also our best midfielder

IS Adebeyor better than Berbatov? Or at least quite similar in ability, if so and he cost what 7-9mil? then if we got around 20for berby then i'd say we'd have a good chance of getting a top class striker to replace him, hopefully Commoli could come up with another gem :)

Berbs leaving would be such a step back, a similar Carrick situation, a stepback thus far 3 transfer windows weve failed to replace

Just a little awkward seeing those two names in the same sentence.

Remember that Berbatov is worldclass
