Adebayor cost hardly anything, he is a different type of forward to Berbatov and in my opinion isn't as good.

It isn't easy to unearth players like Adebayor for nest to nothing and we won't have the luxury that Arsenal had of time to blood a replacement whilst henry is banging in the goals.

To replace Berba we will need a player to hit the ground running and even if we have the funds available it won't be easy persuading a striker anywhere near Berba's class to come to a club without CL football.

Replacing Berbatov with someone of equal ability would be very, very hard.

The main reason for this is that there are very few players in his class. And of those players how many of them would move to a non CL team?

Jol described Kuyt as a 20-20 (goals and assists) player but Berbatov is much more deserving of that title.

There are strikers in the premier league that you can compare to goal scoring wise but in the build up play? I'm struggling to think of anyone past Rooney and maybe Torres. And 1) They went for huge money, 2) They went to CL teams, 3) I don't think there stats are close to Berbatov's.

If we lost Berbatov I'd get over it eventually but I don't think it'd be even remotely easy getting in a replacement of like ability.

If Berbs goes as I think he will, who could we realistically replace him with?

The player has got to be prepared to come to a club without CL football and that pretty much rules out the worlds elite strikers. He's got to have a physical presence which means it would be difficult for us to say sell Berbs and replace him with david Villa as Vills and Keane is to small a combination.

He's got to want to come to a club like Spurs on the up and with ambition and probably we will need to be a step up in his career.

It's going to be really difficult but I'll throw 1 possibility into the ring especially if his club are relegated.....

Kenwyne Jones

I've been really impressed with him this season in what is a poor Sunderland team. He's not in Berba's class but he could play with both Keane & Bent, I think he would score goals and his hold up play is very good. Playing with better players may just springboard his own game forward dramatically.

What do you guys reckon about him or other possibilities?

anelka is there to get on the end of a move and score

berba is part of the move that creates the goal, for keane to score. berba is so much more than just a forward, he is also our best midfielder

That may sound a bit wide of the mark but there is some truth in it. I don't know whether people realise it but Berbatov can be a superb playmaker. I do not remember a center forward who could play as good as a playmaker as Berbatov can. Bergkamp and Cantona were top top players creativity wise but they weren't center forwards. Berbatov's versatility as a player is really astonishing. This is why Jol compared him to Cruyff. Initially, I found that comparision a bit stupid as Cruyff was an amazingly explosive player whereas Berbatov's explosiveness is not particularly impressive. But versatility wise Berbatov is really like Cruyff. There are very few players in European football who were gifted eough to play such different roles as those of the striker and the playmaker. For instance, Zidane would look a bit comical as a center forward as he lacks pace. Van Basten would hardly catch the eye as a playmaker. Such a versatile player cannot be find. The way to replace Berbatov is to sign two different players: a great poacher and a top creative midfielder. Perhaps Bent can be such a poacher.

It's just about balancing what We'd miss from Berbatov with what we could get as a replacement and also how we could strengthern the team and squad as a whole.
