I watch it because I like the format. Best way to get the scores as they happen in my opinion. Also I think Jeff Stelling is a class act.
The show needed a change around though. Id like to see (unpopular opinion coming) Ian Wright brought in.
I don't think Wright is an unpopular opinion at all. He's a good man and interesting to listen to.

You're allowed to find Alex Scott boring, but why does her gender matter?

There are good male pundits, but there are a lot more bad male pundits. The sample size of female pundits is much smaller but there will also be some good and some (more) bad female pundits.

I have never watched Alex Scott on anything as I live in Norway, but our on screen team for the CL final was eight men and three women. We've done shows in the EL where all three in the studio, one presenter and two pundits, were women and nobody batted an eyelid because they're good at their job.

Alex Scott may well be bad at her job, but it isn't because she's a woman.
Alex Scott is perfectly fine (pni) a pundit, and better than half the jobsworths they have on these things.

Plus it opens the door for others. I think Sue Smith is one of the better pundits in general.

Who to replace them though?

I never watched Soccer Saturday for the detailed analysis (there wasn't much) - it was more just to be kept updated on the footy with a little bit of light hearted humour/'banter' that was the appeal.

Maybe Jenas and Higginbotham as they are still young-ish in pundit terms and give decent analysis - and then Michah Richards for a bit of humour.

Would love to see Dawson on it one day after he got overly excited reporting on a Spurs game.

I think i'm in a minority - I find Alex Scott dull.

this is the pull for me too, they all had great chemistry together. even if charlie nick and thompson were twats! cant believe merson survived though, he's thick a pig shit! and biased as fook!

The door opener analogy is an important one. We have Solveig Gulbrandsen (ex-Norway captain, 183 caps, played in ten international tournaments) as one of our main pundits now. She was far from perfect early on but has really grown into the role and seems to have gained a lot of respect among the viewers as well.

Going slightly againt my own ex-pro views here, but we put our eggs in the basket on one of the most well known and respected female footballers in the country, and her success helps recruit other competent women, both ex-pros and journalist pundits.

I read the article and watched the video and nowhere does it mention the word gammon? Im still confused here? Help me out, what does Gammon outrage mean? Surely to god it can't be a term to describe white people?

I enjoy listening to Micah Richards as he has a great way of putting his perspective across. However, he needs to be banned from laughing. Makes me want to cut my ears off.

Gammon = Angry, red-faced white people. Most commonly 50+.

The link should take you to the comments. Sort by best rated. That's gammon outrage.

And, in my own subjective usage, people of any age or colour who complain online about different genders and ethnicities receiving increased representation in the media. That's the mentality of a gammon. Narrow minded and threatened by change.

Oh, and anyone who describes themselves as a 'proud dad' in their social media bio.

Alex Scott is a decent pundit, she’s engaging and a natural in front of the camera. I stopped watching Soccer a Saturday ages ago, it became stale and predictable. They same boring pundits with deep seated biases usually watching their team and telling us how great they are, or that they were robbed. The BT score show is a better more laid back format.

Sky Sports has started to feel like a used car show room lately, full of spivs in shiny suits trying to sell me shit.

Can’t agree & my wife is of the same opinion as me, so it’s not sexist.
Do agree that some male pundits are just as bad, if not worse tho, e.g. Alan Smith, Ray Parlour, Garth Crooks, Charlie Nicholas etc....
However the worst one has to be that female commentator on the BBC, think her name is Vicki Sparks.

So one person I would have loved to have on there is Ryan Mason. Obviously now he is working for us as a coach but I always find him very easy to listen to and he has a really interesting view on the game.

As for now I think they need some younger people who have recently left the game. I’d like to see Michael Dawson on there from a pure Tottenham bias, but other than that I like Micah Richards, Jimmy Bullard would be funny and I like Darren Bent on talksport.

One person I would’ve loved to see was Liam rosenior,(now at derby coaching) could tell he loved the game and actually knew about football, unlike the rest.

I agree. I think you need people who have loads of enthusiasm.

The likes of Nicholas and Thompson looked like they just went along for a laugh with mates, down the pub or something, although I guess that was the original premise. It just doesnt work anymore, especially when everyone was real insight and can get it from the multiple football podcasts and YT shows it fans.

Who actually sits and watches Soccer Saturday anymore though? In this day and age there's so many ways to watch football, why watch people watching the match?
I often think this.

Between probably 2000 and 2008 I would put Sky Sports 1 on at 9am on a Saturday to watch Soccer AM, then have Soccer Saturday on from 12 until 5:30, then I'd watch the evening match.

Couldn't think of anything more boring now than watching that shite for hours.

Half of them don’t even know the players names, as funny as I do find it sometimes when kammy and merse mess up the names, surely that must be the basics, it’s not hard

They do use him on Championship games because he knows the players and can talk tactics.

Personally I'd prefer to see ex-managers as pundits rather than players. They add a better level of insight into tactics and understand the game so much more (see Mourinho's cameo). Problem is, the good ones will already taken by clubs so we get left with dross like Pardew
