After watching ep 4 I'm even more convinced Christmas football can fuck off. Really nice to see what it meant to Japhet as well, nice lad.

The Son injury scenes have definitely been edited for drama, making the medical team look like overly protective worry warts, that Jose has no patience for. The reality is likely more what Lloris said, frustration with the circumstances, not the medical team.

Say what you will about Rose, he hasn’t always been on top form and by his own admission can be difficult to deal with, but he’s one of our few players over the last ten years that I’ve never doubted gave a shit every time he was on the pitch.

It‘s time for him to move on now based on performance, but I’ll miss watching him. On his day he was a heat seeking missile and a hard bastard, one of the few we’ve had.

Watching Episode 5
Interesting listening to Levy. Really wanted to see another side for the perceived view from afar but he really comes across as a slippery politician. Lots of reason for not buying players but he obviously skipped over mentioning if you pay up to or close to the money asked you’re more likely to get your target.
This is why he only sees movement in the last week. Can’t warm to him at all.

As for Hitchin, how does he have a job. It sounds like he’a shocked life is busy in January.
Maybe scout ahead. Take the targets and get to work before the window opens.

Danny Rose in with Jose :-/
Great to see the behind the scenes

really enjoying this series

Just watched the last 3, loving it to be honest.

tickled me when Eriksen was talking about that 225m spend in 2011 and Davies goes “imagine how much that is now” and Eriksen “that would get you Harry’s right leg” even Kane chipping in with “Not with this hammy”.

Sometimes you forget these are just young lads turning up to work with their pals and seeing themselves/their workplace on the TV and all the pressure that comes with it.

My wife, a primary school teacher, is watching with me and doesn’t know most of our players or my opinions about them beyond the obvious (Kane, Dele, etc). She’s unbiased. Just seen the Rose Mourinho interaction and she says ‘what a spoilt brat, has he really just thrown his toys out of the pram like that?’.

My wife is a tolerant, open minded woman, evidenced both by her job and her marriage to me, and before this moment knew of Rose only that he plays for Spurs, nothing else. She thought he acted like a tit.

Rose made some fair points, such as how can he be at his best if he only plays once a month, but he seemed to implode at the end. Jose didn’t say anything particularly bad but for Rose to get up and walk out saying he’ll speak to Levy was the wrong thing to do. His attitude towards Jose was too aggressive from the off. To walk in and start with ‘I want to know what the problem is’ wasn’t the best way to start an unplanned meeting with the boss. Nothing wrong with being honest, but he could’ve said exactly the same stuff (apart from his opening line) just in a different manner and that meeting would’ve turned out a lot differently imo.

The part that annoyed me the most though was when he said he’d train at home if he wasn’t going to play him. Talk about the last thing a manager wants to hear. How different would it have been if he said ‘I want to fight for my place, tell me what I need to do’ or something along those lines. The documentary took the piss a bit because straight after him saying he’s going to see Levy, the next scene is Levy basically saying no good clubs want him.

Rose is our best left back we’ve had in donkey’s years and I really hope he has a successful end to his career somewhere. For those saying we should’ve sold him when he was at his best a few years back, there would’ve been even more outrage at us selling our best players again. Shit happens and while he’s been too outspoken at times, he’s been a great servant for us.

Other items of note:

Lloris is a leader. I think he’s even more of a leader since Jose has come in.

Love the random shit like Dele asking top 3 favourite chocolate bars.

Tanganga reminds me of a young Forrest Whittaker, which isn’t a great footballing compliment but factual nonetheless. A great footballing compliment would be that his style reminds me a little of a young Ledley.

I agree that Hitchen doesn’t appear very personable but as long as he can do his job then that’s fine by me - unless his job means actually meeting our new signings face to face in January because that’s his grumpy shitarse month.

I like Levy. Sometimes he’s a bit David Brent-ish but I’m pretty sure most chairman will be the same, especially when they’re talking about football. But to be fair, he’s seen pretty much every game we’ve played home and away for the last 20 odd years, so he will have some genuine fan knowledge.

Overall really enjoying this. Episode 7 will be awful but still interesting I’m sure.

I know some of our football was dire this season and it will be in games to come next season but he has his style and he isn’t going to change. But when I was watching the documentary, it was clear that right up until Son got injured, we were winning lots of games and I’m 100% certain we’d have qualified for CL if Kane or Son or both stayed fit. We also became a lot harder to beat as the season went on, especially post lockdown. If we manage to keep our injury list down then I have weird high hopes for next season. I wish they were filming next year too, year ending in 1 and all that....

Can’t wait for 4 hours sleep next Sunday night/Monday morning again.

Couple of things from early episode 4:

- forgot Jose’s dog died at Christmas.

- still can’t believe we let Harry Kane walk 60 yards with his leg falling off at Southampton!

Amusing aspects from the latest bunch of episodes.

Danny Rose looked like he'd been up all night winding himself up. Imagine the days before facebook and mobiles and someone you work with had pissed you off - you go in early riled up. Totally self-inflicted to storm up to the manager and say "whats your problem? You know exactly what I'm on about". He's lucky that his Yorkshire accent and dulcet tone took the edge off it all imo.
"Ey up boss - yer nor I cannot tekkit when I'm not playin' ahead of t'other players" could sound a lot more aggressive in other accents/regional dialects. Imagine it in a Celtic one!

Slightly painful with Danny 1: "Bournemouth are trying but it's hard for them to do the finances. Newcastle we're waiting on"
Danny 2: "What about Milan?"
Danny 1: "Erm....well, you see...it's erm...you know, it's difficult"

Interesting to see Hugo's team talks "Listen eh? We want to win eh? Fucking eh? Come on eh? Lesdoiteh!???". Far more vocal and aggressive that he comes across. He and Kane are probably switched from what I expected.

Felt quite emotional with the Japhet stuff and Stevie's debut. Well put together stuff.

Are the cameras going to be filming this year as well? I hope not! Need to let the players concentrate on their football and not wondering if a camera is going to pick up something they say/do!

But it still shows the player holds all the cards.
At that moment, he walked into Mourinho's office, listened to him, didn't like what he had to say, basically told him he was asking for a transfer and in effect within 2 weeks was out of the club and started playing regular football again.
Seriously if that isn't showing you that the players hold all the cards, then really I don't know what can, and he will still go on a free at the end of this season, and pick up big signing on bonus and high wages when he goes.

Players hold the cards to a certain extent but this isn't an example of that. We'd already tried to offload him the summer before but he was the one refusing to leave. He clearly has had ideas above his station for a couple of years and kept thinking he'd get a move to a bigger club, but failed to accept that nobody that good was interested in him. Eventually he's realised he's not going to get games at Spurs and decided to accept a move after all and has realised he's not going toget the dream move he's after, so has settled for a loan move to Newcastle.

Just watched 4th episode - am drip feeding to see myself thru until weds.
Coupla things: footballers are ridiculously fit and pushed hard; Harry’s hamstring gutted him: he was welling up... likelihood is that he’ll be injured again in upcoming season, as the way the attacking players are expected to perform, injuries are always just a breath away; think of the way ballet dancers push their bodies to the limit...and their resultant muscle pulls etc... what I’m trying to say we definitely need a very good ‘back up’ striker;
secondly... so chuffed seeing Tanganga get such recognition; sure the pic of him as a kid had him wearing a Hoddle t-shirt ... plus, fact he wishes to repay his parents for their sacrifices. Want him at Spurs til he retires. Truly enjoying the documentary

Yeah that was that bit that sent alarm bells off for me - probably a poor choice of words from him, but saying you can’t plan for it (as head of recruitment) is ridiculous!

Disagree completely. I've heard other DoF types and heads of recruitment say simar things in the past to be fair to him.

When you're spending big money in January it's almost invariably because you're having to react to a desperate situation

If anything it would be stupid to deliberately plan to spend big in January. Obviously it's different in situations where someone's contract is running out like eriksen

I think Ben Davies comes off exceptionally well and he seems very popular.

I genuinely haven’t felt bitter towards Eriksen and these episodes compound that.

Dele seems like everyone’s little brother. He’s very likeable.

I’m enjoying how compassionate and concerned towards and for each other the squad are.

In the spirit of FFS Dele...

Why do the drinks in cups have straws? Which straws are the best? Are spiral patterned straws better than non-patterned straws? Is there a higher spillage rate if you don’t use a straw compared to when you do use a straw? If you use a straw in your drink will it protect you against VAR decisions? Will they stop Aurier from giving away a shit penalty?
