Spurs dignity

Every aspect of the actual game last night has been pretty much done to death, and so I was wondering what people thought of Harry's reaction to the result. If those refereeing decisions had gone against Benitez (or Ferguson) they would have been screaming blue murder in the media, accusing the officials in the strongest terms of needing glasses, being unfit, being biased, etc., etc. Harry was calm and mild in his post-match interview, with no excuses, just saying said that Liverpool played better than us. Which in some respects, harrying mainly, was perhaps right. (SSN keep insisting that Harry criticised the officials, but I haven't seen or heard any such quotes.)

Do you think that because other managers vehemently attack referees every time their team loses, decisions are more likely to go their way in future games? Would anyone like to see a Spurs manager behaving in that way? Certainly in recent years, none of our managers have. Jol, Ramos, and Redknapp, have all been gentlemen in defeat, giving credit to the opposition where it's due - something that Benitez, for example, would never do.

Personally, I am proud of the dignity invariably shown by Spurs, but do others agree - or feel that we should jump on the ' we would have won if not for the incompetent/blind/unfit referee' bandwagon, in the hope of getting future decisions?

Watch the Redknapp video. He doesn't go overboard, and I don't think he said anything the FA could charge him for, but he's certainly no fan of Webb.

fuck this talk of bandwagons. the shit refereeing was all that separated two very mediocre teams yesterday. we'd be sitting on more points if howard webb wasn't such a ****. and so ineptly assited by his line****s.

he should get a week off, at least. really, given previous performances (man utd 5-2) he should be out of a job. IMO there would have been noting undiginified about complaining post match as it was the deciding factor

I'd go with whatever worked for me at the time. Just like any football fan. We're all hypocrites. We can claim dignity now but if Harry had an outburst last night we'd be backing him to the hilt. I fucking hate football sometimes :-(

Webb plays to the crowd. What a muppet.

As far as Redknapp goes the most he said was that the officials needed to phone a friend over that offside goal!

For me it depends on the performance. I personally would've been a bit embarassed if Harry had come out and lambasted the officials because it would have papered over the cracks. It was a shit performance really and everyone could see that. Its not like the Man United penalty at OT where we had been by far the better team and the game truly hinged on that moment. If we had completely dominated and created chance after chance last night then I could understand openly criticising the officials, but to be honest I don't think we did enough on the pitch to earn the right to complain about the result.

I agree, and i much prefer his approach to say Wenger's.....but Webb is a giant nob head - that's for sure - it's a tricky one.

I prefer Wengers approach as it show's he actually gives a toss and is always looking out for them (Arsenal) i.e. The next time the "shamed" ref referee's a Arse game he would think twice before he makes a decision. That for me is a positive thing.

I would much rather we are flippin hated by everybody and win games than be ponces who accept everything that goes against you and lose ...

He said something like "I've been unlucky with Howard Webb at Portsmouth and last year he gave a bad penalty at Utd and then today but they tell me he's one of the best ref's around so ......"

Sort of stiletto throught the ribs without being notice rather than a club round the head.

I have to say though that I have come to the conclusion that our players really have got to start hassling the ref's, get in their face like the successful clubs because the ref's have shown us that it works; respect is clearly not what they respond to.

one thing ive come to learn is that the best managers are w*ankers...they are bad losers & then moan about everything....mourinho, wenger, fergie...

BUT THEY ARE THE BEST!!!!....so i would like harry to be more of a t*t tbh

Jol was to nice & tbh so is Harry....he should have gone ape last night, took the fine & then maybe the next time Webb reffed us we might get sommat...

interesting how everyone thinks the goal should have stood & we had a stone wall penalty & yet its gonna get blown over...

his performance was an utter disgrace

I have to agree - maybe Harry would get a fine but an outburst would at the very least highlight the specific situation and possibly alter future decisions. If I remember rightly Jol did not speak up too much about the Mendes goal from the half way line at old trafford and just took it on the chin, If he had called the ref and linesman every name under the sun live on Sky TV we may now have goal line cameras used officialy to decide such situations.

Personally i think the ref should do a after match conference sitting in between the 2 managers would be interesting to say the least........

It's occasions like Defoes goal, Henrys handball, gallas stamping all over the Bolton player etc that I wish we played 45minute halves until the ball goes dead/neutral and do away with stoppage time and bring in video ref. The standard of refereeing is a joke, how in such a footballing nation any refs can truly be impartial is something I can't believe is true.

If any of those things had happened in say a champs league or world cup final there'd be uproar, it's also time referees had to do post match interviews.

i think harry should have gone ballisitic - i think spurs should have very loudly put in an official complaint against Webb

i think he should never ref a game of ours ever again

i think he should never ref again - but that's too much to hope for

the bloke should be ashamed of what he has done to us in the past two seasons but unless we lead a media witch hunt against him - he won't be bothered

dignity my arse - i want us to win things like fergie does

i know under the ENIC model that's not possible - but i hate to see refs ***** all over us, and we just meekly take it

I agree with you,we're two quite when crap decisions go against us and god knows there have been plenty of them over the years,It's about time we kicked up a stink when a ref fcuks us over otherwise it will go on and on.

Unfortunately the state the Premiership is in dignified managers seem to get an early trip to the scrap heap.

The aggressive attitude of Red Nose (and his players) towards refs probably adds points to their league total. Unfortunately nice guys tend to come last. I don't applaud it, but if a more aggressive stance by Harry leads to more points then he should go for it. The bullying intimidation of match officials by Fergie is for a reason - it gives him an edge. I don't want to love the manager for who he is, but for what he achieves for the team. Screw being a decent chap who accepts bad decisions with dignity - scream and shout, throw the toys out of the pram and refs will start to think twice before giving an unfairly biased call. Dignity also comes with respect.

Harry's accepting attitude after the Liverpool game seems reflect our attitude on the pitch, far too accepting and most certainly not the mind-set of winners.
