A midfield of Hojbjerg- N’Dombele and GLC might be great going forward but out of possession it would worry me.
I can't say Sissoko fills me with confidence off the ball though, he doesn't know where to pick players up, good at chasing back but not spotting runners find space in between the lines.

Sissoko ducks every time a header is there to be won. I don’t like moaning after a win, but has no fight in them situations

Wolves must be laughing their tits off getting us to pay for Doherty while they got Semedo in.

Bit OTT, Wolves paid 30m Euro plus 10m apparently (no really a swap deal). Doherty has played a few games with us. Yet we are second with the best GD in the league. But we are still apparently crap.

Yes we aren't playing amazing, but we have played well a few times this year and are playing a lot of games. We beat West Brom next week and we have started very well, on top of knocking Chelsea out of the cup

Part of the problem is Sissoko, he works his socks off, but can't play football.

A bit like Howe, Potter has the knack of getting pretty average players playing good progressive football. It's a shame Jose & his boys can't get us doing the same.

Haha what did she do?
O’Hara, who was watching the game, referred to Spurs as ‘us’ and she looked at the camera and said something alluding to the ‘us’ including her. I think she’s out of the closet as Spurs if I recall but still nice to see it on Sky as it makes a change from the Utd/Liverpool bias.

Yes but they also arguably played who over the course of a season would be classed as better teams (on paper) Man City, Liverpool, Leicester all of who are likely to finish above Southampton, Villa, Everton.

There's more it than that, their season XG is pretty poor and they are low in chance creation, they don't create many chances for their forwards...there's a reason why they have the best defence in the league because they have been defence 1st.

Very nervy game.

Son looked shattered and never really tried to be on the shoulder of the last defender. Poor game for him.

Ndombele was another poor performer. But our transitions were not quick enough. Everytime ndombele got the ball there wasn't anybody running into space to pass forward to. He had to go it alone.

We played a similar formation as Brighton in 3 at the back with PEH slotting in between the defenders at times but because we don't press, our midfield gets over run with their extra man in the middle.

We got lucky with the penalty. I thought that was harsh on Brighton. Also thought the Doherty incident was a penalty. As for the foul on PEH leading up to their goal it was obviously a clear foul even if he did get the slightest of touches of the ball. The trajectory of the ball didn't change resulting in PEH not getting to the second ball.

Poor performance as a whole but the 3 points is all that matters.

Every pass from him when we're trying to move forward goes behind the recipient so they have to stop and retrieve it. It happened so many times when he tried to find Doherty out wide tonight.

He just isn't good enough on the ball, period.

I dont expect us to play fantastic football every game. And we didnt today. But we won. Won on a slightly off day.
Its three points. Bale scored. We are second in the league.
Be happy guys.

Why?! If we’d seen out the games against Newcastle and West Ham both of whom we absolouely battered until the last 10 minutes, we’d be top by 2pts, I’d say 2nd is the least we should be given our performances so far.

We weren’t that bad tonight we were just pragmatic and functional and our world class attackers won us the game it’s what is needed in certain games, Liverpool didn’t run riot 5-0 every game last year, the majority of games they eeked out by one goal, it’s what successful teams do.
Fair enough, if you felt we played well then good for you. I thought we were second to most things and didn't really impress. Yes, we have better players than a lot of teams so "should" win but eventually your luck runs out. I'd like to see us play better but am happy with the result and the fact we are second.

Overall, fair fucks to Jose for having us second whilst also playing a LOT of football.

Lamptey is gonna be some player. Imagine him and reggy as a pairing
Lamptey issue is going to to be his size in a back four and it will put a lot of managers off, otherwise he is a cracking player and is a perfect wing back.

For one reason or another I was following the match on the BBC website. The first positive mention Brighton got on there was in the 26th minute. Apart from their goal (which everyone seems to agree should have been ruled out), the only other notable situation of theirs that was described was Lallana not quite bringing down a ball over the top (in my head, this looks like the standard Toby to Dele move from a few years back - never an easy chance, no matter how Dele often made it look).

By contrast, we scored two goals - the first seemingly from nothing, the second from a good move. In addition, the Lamela post/Sanchez save situation seems, admittedly without viewing yet, at least the equal of the Lallana chance and Kane also contrived to hit the post from no yards out.

As Spurs fans you'd think we'd have seen the reverse of this game enough times to know that having lots of the ball, seemingly "dominating" in terms of possession and/or territory, doesn't actually equate to doing enough to win the game.

Many may not want to watch us play how we did today, but we've spent years "dominating" like Brighton did today and won bugger all. José in the other hand has spent years getting his teams to play similarly to how we have across the season as a whole so far and won everything. Food for thought, surely?
