Along with Royal, he looks like a different player at the moment!
I'm glad he's the one we kept. Obviously Porro will be a massive step up in a technical and attacking sense, but it's useful to have a defensive option like Royal in the squad for games like this.

Dier looks to have been pushing into that hole

Yep was watching and when our defence is set there's a real good flow between the back three of tracking runners versus stepping up. Much better than earlier in the season. We got caught out when we tried to press and got too stretched. The midfielders were nowhere to be seen and Haaland dropped into the hole and that left the back three flat footed.

PEH is so good it's ridiculous. Their defense is a joke against pressure, and Rodri has gifted us three goals in two games now. It feels like every Spurs game against Manchester City is a tactical masterpiece by our respective managers the last few years. When we lose it's usually due to individual quality by some City player like Mahrez. Hopefully KDB doesn't feel it when he arrives.

Perisic is an accident waiting to happen in this game, I agree. Our left side now looks a concern.

Decent enough first half. They won’t wait long to bring de Bruyne on though. There are more goals for us on the break. COYS

The only thing that annoys me about that half is Romero's yellow. He was so late it wasn't even in the second half today, he was well into next week. What was the fucking point of that?

Great half of football though.

Yea but Perisic has been shocking and was last game vs Marhez also.

Think it’s a good idea from @HotSprut

Emerson LWB & Porro on at RWB.
Yeah well I think it's ridiculous. Emerson has been really good on the right, so your answer is to disrupt both sides, because one side isn't functioning as well?

I think the scoreline here probably helps us more than when we were 2 up there. They won't come out as gung ho as they did last time, so we can hopefully play ourselves into the second half a bit.

Overall I'm quite happy with that, referee was dreadful and we've still managed to go in 1 up at half time. With a stronger bench today I think we can adapt to anything they do.

Playing well. Despite actually having less possession this is accepted against city. Why couldn’t we play like that against arsenal and against lesser teams? We look more like ourselves last season

Great half, edge of the seat and nervy, but our attacking threat looks back.

What I would love to know is why we persist in trying and failing to play it out of the back?? We do it all the time and it rarely works, and we end up giving it away in a really dangerous place, or hoofing it to no one, and then obvs giving away possession and being on the defensive again. Watching us do it time and time again without seeming to learn that it's not working is so infuriating. AND for all the good we have done in the first half it feels like it will be our undoing of us again. Someone has to see this and do something about it, or am I imagining things??

Will be better when we have a more assuring keeper who is comfortable on his feet and kicking. Lloris is a weak link in trying to play out from the back IMHO.

We are just not organised to play out from the back regardless of the keeper, when the ball leaves Lloris's feet we have no plan after that and then we resort to the long ball which we lose, it's just rinse and repeat.
