We are one of the traditional titans of the English top flight, and are usual contenders to qualify for the Champions League. At one point during the season we were even on pace to secure the title. We are now struggling at the moment, and have lost three games in a row in the league. We are 9th in the league table, and the absence of Kane due to injury has been a crucial loss. Mourinho has now come under pressure after some poor performances. Haven fallen off course and are struggling, we are striving to get back to our earlier dominating ways, and need a surplus of seven points to get into the top-four.
West Bromwich Albion, on the other hand, are 19th in the league table, just one point ahead of 20th placed Sheffield United. They were busy in the January transfer window, signing players like Mbaye Diagne, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Okay Yokuslu on loan, and they will have little time to adapt with instant results required.
The only consolation we have is the fact that we have two games in hand. We need to start performing at a much more higher level here on, or we could kiss goodbye our hopes of representing England on the continent the next season.
Sunday we have a great opportunity to deliver a win, and get our confidence back. We are at home, and are pitted against one of the worst teams in the whole league in terms of position. As I said the Baggies are placed 19th in the table, and have won just twice all through this campaign. They are also a recently-promoted club, and are finding it hard to cope up with the intensity of the experienced teams in the top flight. Moreover, they have conceded the most number of goals so far in the whole contest – 52. In fact, no single other squad has let in even 40 goals yet.
We lost 1-0 on the road the last match-day, against Brighton. In the meantime, Sam Allardyce’s men lost 2-1 on the road the past game week, against the dead-last placed Sheffield United.
The Baggies were winless in 27 of their preceding 30 overall match-ups, and they have won just once on the road since July of 2020. On the other hand, we were unbeaten in 29 of our last 34 overall matches, and have lost just thrice at this venue since June of 2020 – against Everton, Leicester, and Liverpool. On top of that we also have a great home record against them over the years.
We should win this one, but recent results dictate that we do not hold our breath.
