That’s the kind of encouragement that everyone in the academy sees….

I do think Ange’s philosophy plays into giving more players a few minutes here or there.
Agree with this entirely, exactly why drives my lad, who was close to going on first team tour!

his team back in cat 1 this year so he’ll feature against u18/u21 against us this year, always a weird one with us both being spurs fans 😂

Up until now, what's the take been on Ajayi? Has he always been one to keep and eye on and the club have always thought he could turn into a promising player?

Very much under the radar, for me. If you think he's been in the same group as Chaplin, Meghoma, Willhoft-King, Black, Amo-Ameyaw, Hall and Irow. All these lads have been involved with England or got drafted into the U18s early. I'd say even Roswell, King and Akhamrich were more 'talked about' than Ajayi. A year and a half ago I wouldn't have been surprised if we let him go, not because he was bad just that he wasn't standing out in any way. He seemed a like a bog standard goalscoring forward. Unless I'm massively missing 'it' then he must have just made massive strides in his development and maybe just fits the profile the club are looking for going forward.

Yeah, I get all of my info on the youth from this thread but he's not a name that's stood out to me.
How old is the lad?

He's 17. He scored about half a dozen goals last year, so averaged just over a goal every three games I think.

Kids can suddenly develop, physically and also get a lot quicker I was slow then 17 became quick as I suddenly grew, also sometimes stuff clicks, he might have been working on finishing or just football makes more sense and he has more confidence.

Who knows, fingers crossed he could be a later bloomer

I'm liking this change of approach. Really nice to see the club signing top academy prospects to professional deals. It was really frustrating seeing talented youngsters leave on a free. We must be offering competitive wages now. Hopefully this is our new MO going forward and we actually see a few of these come through to the first team as well.
