Why do people keep talking about Grealish when he plays in the same position as Son? It's practically the only position we don't need a player.
Because Grealish also plays the number 10 role as he did today against Chelsea and against us.

Son can also play on the right and in a front 2.

They’re not remotely similar styles of players either. Son is a forward, Grealish is a playmaker.

I really think we need to get over Grealish.

Villa don’t need to sell, and he isn’t going to force a move, especially not to us. City or United, maybe, but not us.

Would much rather we went for someone like Brooks, Cantwell, or had a look at the many players Barcelona and Real are likely to have to get rid of.

Why do people assume he can only play in position? He could be coached into a central role

So spend a huge sum of money on a player and then play him out of position? I like Grealish a lot but the money would be extortionate, just not sure that it would be the best use of funds. Anyway its immaterial really as we have next to no chance of getting him here.

Grealish played centrally in a midfield 3 last season and has also played a lot as a 10 in his career, probably more than on the left, not that we’ll sign him

We did those kind of moves last time when we sold Bale and it just didnt work out. We need at least 1 statement signing if Kane is sold and Grealish is the one for me. Its not like we wont have the money to buy him.

So the french league as we understand it is in tatters financially. I'd be keen for any people who see themselves as knowledgeable on the league to put forward some names for the rest of us to check out given that Hitchen specialises in the french league, I imagine we'll be looking there.

Personally I'm interested in CB's, DM's and RB's but yeah any names you all have, I'd love to see a list or a little write up and we can check them out.

If we’re going for a statement signing, I’d rather Griezmann or Dybala personally.

Not that I wouldn’t love Grealish, I just don’t think it’s realistic any more

Daka is the one.

Closest thing to Haaland in Europe in terms of his potential as an out and out goalscorer. Really think if/when he goes from Salzburg to Leipzig he's going to absolutely explode in the Bundesliga and he'll be the next big young striker being bandied about for huge money.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Haaland moved this summer and Daka was his replacement.

Grealish quotes from a year ago:
"What will be hard at the moment is with the position I am playing in at the moment, people would probably say I am playing as a winger."

"I’ve always said my favourite position would be playing in midfield. That is where I would love to play for England."

"It is where I would want to play for Villa, but it just so happens at the moment I am playing well in the position I am in and it is better for the team.

"If I was fortunate enough to get a call-up, the position I would want to play is in midfield."

Like previous posters have mentioned about french league being in financial trouble, I would look at sugar picking a few players from the league in Renato Sanches and houssem aouar, bringing both of those in allows us to play without a dedicated tackler in hojberg if we solidify our defence. We lack the link between defence and attack and both of these players would fill the void we hoped ndombele and lo celso would be, if true they downed tools and didn’t travel.

Upgrading dele is another area with someone we have been linked with in the past like dybala would be a huge step forward, and if the inevitable that Harry leaves this window then patson daka up top to replace him.

a front 4 of this would be lethal:
daka
son dybala bale

Probably the best signing (or maybe a non-signing) would be a true appointment/transition of power that sees Levy stepping back from Transfer-related activities. Not just a Baldinini situation, but more like Levy sits in his cheese room all day and thinks about his next cheese-room-passion-project while the other guy makes the decisions on who to sell/buy. That’s the dream, for me.

For me clearing the decks is the most important thing this summer.

Foyth
Doherty
Sissoko
Winks
Lamela
Aurier
Dier
Dele
Moura
Sanchez
Davies
CCV
Gazzanigga

They all need to be moved out the club. Move those 12 out should be able to raise 150-200m if average price is around the 15m mark. Whatever happens this summer getting rid of the majority of the names above will put us in a stronger position. We should look at some highly rated youngsters from the championship as this europa conference will give us a good chance to blood a lot of the younger players.

As well as 2 or 3 decent established players. We finished 12 points off 2nd in what was a terrible season. If Kane goes so be it, but recruitment is key and we have to finish the window with at a minimum 0 net spend. Cant be making money unless by some miracle we get some bargains like dybala daka sabitzer andersen etc then I'd let levy off making some money

If it was one or the other I’d rather Beundia than Grealish. Diff positions but Beundia’s output is very good. He’s also tenacious with prem experience.

for me I would be pretty happy with

Lloris > S Johnson (WBA)
Dier > Andersen
Dele > Salbizter?
Winks > Skipp
Sissoko > anyone that can control the ball and pass it further than 5yrds
Ndombele > anyone that can dominate a midfield defensively and create attacks and face 90 mins
Aurier > on todays performance Doherty, with Tanganga as backup
Bale > Bale

I don't think we will go mad unless we have the Kane money, if he does go I'd spend some of it on Ivan Tony (not 1st choice starter), and no idea who would be a 1st choice as he will be too hard to replace

Should 12 players leave and another 12 arrive all in one window? That’s what many are advocating. It’s got disaster written all over it. There won’t be much value buying off another PL team so most incomings will be from abroad needing time to settle. Will enough teams have enough cash to buy our deadwood after the financial hit of the pandemic? I can see 5 / 6 ins and outs happening but not the numbers people are talking about here,
