This will probably be harder opponent then Newcastle but we should still be easily winning. But we still need to rotate, gio, Dele, Gil, Bergwijn, Winks, Tanganga will all start for sure, only question is who to start up front, most likely Scarlet I guess.

That looks like a really unbalanced squad - with no width in the attack. Both Bryan and Bergwijn will want to cut inside from those positions and neither Tanganga nor Davies are comfortable bombing forward on the wings.

With those players you’d be better off swapping sides with Bryan and Bergwijn and playing a 442, which would then give Dele more freedom to make ghosting runs.

I’m not dismissing him outright/ I’d love him to be a credible option. Maybe out of his depth was a harsh choice of words.
But in any of the Europa games have you seen anything to suggest he could fill in for Kane? I haven’t.
How would you feel if Kane had tested positive for covid and missed today’s game for example?
I’m just frustrated that we’ve pinned all our hopes on a 17 yr old to cover for one of the best strikers in the world.
Would love to be wrong but right now I don’t think he’s ready
I do not have that I worry to be honest. To me age is irrelevant if you can do the job, and I have faith in him doing it if given the chance. Not saying he is up to Kane's standard, far from it, but we could do worse and we have in the past

Build on the 4-2-3-1 system that seems to work . Get other squad members comfortable in that system should they get called upon for league duty.

You then limit the teams attacking potential by forcing Stevie and Gil to play as traditional wingers and then hope that Dele is in the mood. Having them play as inverted wingers allows them to

1) Cut in have a shot
2) Cut in play a pass ( through pass, lobbed, 1/2 pass )
3) Cut in and then back out to throw the defender off balance and then cross with weaker foot ( Stevie's left is better than Gil's right foot )
4) Cut in and play a reverse pass to the FB*

*RE: FBs - Tanganga actually gets up the pitch quite often, depending on opposition he's facing. If he's facing down a really tricky or speedy LW ( Sterling, Zaha etc) he will focus on the defensive side of things first and then pick his moments to bomb forward. He actually looks solid going forward and I can see him improving that side of his game quite easily. Davies not so much but he'll cross from deep or cross first time if he has space.

Winks
Lo Celso.

Bergwijn.

I would go with this. With the internationals players have played a lot recently. Need full rotations with good players on the bench.

Going to need to make a few changes, especially with the lack of subs yesterday. Emerson and Romero especially will need a rest.

Gollini
Doherty Rodon Sanchez Davies
Winks Skipp
Gil Dele Bergwijn

Think if we go full B team we will lose
Agree, we need Kane or Son out there, maybe half each. Our failure to buy a back up means we can only risk resting them both in no pressure games. And this will be a high pressure game. Defeat here and we probably don't win the group. Then there are two extra games or failure to qualify at all
I think the ECL is realistically the most prestigious competition we can win. So much as I want to see Kane and Son rested, I think one at least must play.

dont think scarlett is anywhere ready for first team action
he hasn't been helped by the teams he's been in but yeah it's probably too soon for him. markanday is better in most areas right now and should be considered instead but for some reason doesn't seem to be in the frame.

Yep, Markanday deserves his chance, but maybe the contract situation means he is effectively finished at the club
U23 play West Ham tonight, of course players can play Monday and Thursday, but will any of them do so?

i don't think playing today precludes him from featuring on thursday so i wouldn't read anything into tonight's line-up, i still don't expect him to be involved though but others might.

it's frustrating because if sessegnon was fit he'd no doubt play and no one would think anything of it but markanday's a better attacking player than sess. some still harbour hopes for clarke making it but his performances for the u23s are nowhere near markanday's. whether it's contract related or not i don't know, if it is then that's dumb because ignoring him is hardly going to entice him into signing a new one.

We will not know until we play him with a good mix of 1st teamers say Son, Ndombele and Lucas together. I am not a fan of this 2nd stream team picking and then moaning when it does not work and then ridiculing the players picked. These so called 2nd teamers never play together like an u23 team does against like for like competition. Younger players should be introduced at one or two at a time with a large contingent of 1st teamers. Only then will we see the quality that they have and their ability to to fit into the 1st team on a regular basis.
