Emphasises the reason to get Ade secured early and the find another top striker to come in aswell.

Adebayor and Benny were both playing for us in January this year during the African Cup because Togo and Cameroon didn't qualify to play at it.

They have easier draws this time though, so it's more likely they will be away at it.

I like Ade a lot and thought he had a decent return last season but I was really hoping for a goal machine especially if it's looking like one up front with two wingers.

AVB followed by siggy, verts and ade in a week would be as harry would say triffic bit of business. Need to start seeing others now going through the revolving door out the club.

Presume Butland is one for the future then, Alnwick replacement.

To be fair, my Nan could have replaced Alnwick.

Shit! The last thing we need is Ade fucking off for 2 months early-2013. GREAT!

Chill Winston.

Togo don't qualify for it that often, and when they do they get knocked our first round. He'll be off for a couple of weeks worst case scenario.

Benny on the other hand is more of an issue.

Yeah, but it's difficult finding a goal machine that links up play well and is available and cheap enough that doesn't want high wages and doesnt mind not having CL footy this year and will pick us over other clubs offering more. Compromises have to be made.

Edmonton on COYS who has a lot of info re: stadium development just posted re: Oscar

Roger Morgan on SO reagrding the Chelsea's Bid for Oscar

It's that joorabchian chappy. Perhaps we suspected this would happen and he isn't our main target after all. Or perhaps that would be too Machiavellian

Edmonton then said "Goes back to when the chavs bought Scotty to destabilise Charlton, they will always try to disrupt or weaken other clubs rather than concentrate on their own team."

Good morning.

Fuck Chelsea.

Does this explain the Modric interest?

Also, if we have any sense, he won't be the only striker we bring in this window. I agree that we need a proven goalscorer if possible but having a striker who is so good at bringing others into the game and holding the ball up (like Adebayor) is also massive for the squad. Hopefully AVB is builing a squad rather than a first XI and Adebayor will just be part of that squad.

This, with the ACN coming up this year it would be suicide to only sign Adebayor this summer

Nope, Modric was always closer to joining Man Utd, than Chelsea.

My thoughts around the Oscar stuff is this... and it is literally an opinion.

We would have known who was in talks with Oscar, but he was sounded out, and we put in a bid. Quite obvious that we didn't fight for him, so it would appear from the outset that we rolled over and allowed Chelsea an easier run to sign him.

Sounds like we bottled it slightly, however, the thought process behind it is, we played fair and nice with them over that signing, so that makes the relationship slightly easier between both clubs for other signings (such as those we are linked to).

Difficult to play, seeing as we are rivals of course and with AVB, Chelsea will be keeping a close eye on us over the next year.

The issue being is how long the players can run the club there, it's clear as mud that the players were the ones who revived their season last year, not De Matteo, and with him at the helm, with new players, it could be a more difficult ride for them. However, there is no doubting they are signing quality players, so they might have that arrogance that we are not in competition with them.

Still we need to tread carefully and seem willing to play fair.

This might have been mentioned before, and they might be out to scupper our dealings, but are Chelsea just already aware of some potential AVB targets from his time with them?

Someone asked JJ will we be bringing in one or two more strikers in addition to Ade, his reply was "definitley one more :)"

I think the pool of potential players for all ambitious clubs is small and they will all 'know' each other's targets by definition. Newcastle was the exception that proved the rule.

Ade, Defoe, Kane + A.N.Other.

Thats the strike force to be honest, I reckon Sturridge will be the other, really vcan't see another big name fitting in with the style/happy to sit on bench/play a bit part kinda thing.

I thought she wanted Champs League football...;)

Where is the "classic" rating when you need it....

Chelsea are a real pain in the backside, buy players for no reason other then to get one over on someone else and that kia chap, if there ever was a devil in physical form it is him, nasty!

You may well be correct, there is also the train of thought that we will bring in a striker who can play either up top or as a wide forward, Sturridge would certainly fit that description.....Although JJ has said that Sturridge doesn`t like AVB.
