Me too but can't see it happening now (hope I'm wrong). Now that villa are staying up they don't have to sell and if they do I think there will be a few clubs in for him pushing up the fee and wages too much. Randy Lerner has also got top dollar for players previously (downing, Milner, Barry )

They did get top dollar for those three but only because of who bought them. City with their mountains of cash and Liverpool who were going crazy with the amount they were spending at the time.

I'm not saying Benteke would be cheap but I reckon DL could get him for less than what a lot of us think he could.

I would prefer him to get games week in week out to facilitate his development at a quicker rate. Unless AVB would be intending to start him next season, which I don't think he will, a loan at a good Prem Club like Villa, playing week in week out, would serve him and us better in the long run - IMO anyway.

Either way he definitely deserves more game time

Can we ditch the contract with Carlsberg and get Leffe and Grimbergen on tap at the Lane too, then? :)
Leffe reminds me of our Belgian lads: "Leffe Blond is bright, fragrant, and has a slight orangey flavour (Vertongen), whereas Leffe Brune is dark, aromatic and full of body" (Dembele). ;)

Understand the point - what we've done with Townsend at QPR, but I really want to see Tommy C play regularly for us regularly next year, I think he's got massive potential and now is the time he realised that with us.

ITK for Benteke or Leandro. AVB has hinted at Villa. Still we will get one of those at best I reckon, plus maybe a LB and young creative midfielder. After that I honestly believe Levy will play hardball trying to buy any good player who is available and try to get them for good value who are opportunistic signings like VDV and Dempsey (I know not everyone's choice, but seemed a coup at the time for someone who had scored 17 goals last season).

Don't agree with the approach of buying the now proven Benteke for god knows how much, we need to be looking at this seasons version of him. Snapping up the unheralded player who turns out to be a star.

However, would rather have him than Leandro if that was the choice.

Benteke for a good price, and i am a happy panda.

Some goals/assist from this season, hes done some great goals, seems like every goal has some form of skill involved, not just those ez goals.

Yeah, Carroll has got potential, but to unleash it, he has to play regularly.
Could be good for him to be loaned to Villa for free and after that spell we could be the first option for Westwood.

Even if we beat Arsenal to 4th, wouldn't we then need to play a 2 legged qualifier to get into the CL group stages proper?

Which means we'll have another 3 months of noises coming out of the club that 'We need to wait for the outcome of those matches before signing our players' or 'we're in for him, but he's gonna wait til after those matches before deciding whether to sign for us'

All adds up to signings coming in VERY late, having none of our pre-season, missing vital time to gel, and us performing poorly for the first few games AGAIN.

Same shit, different season. (sorry all, think someone's taken all the jam out of my donut in a big way today lol)

Nah, we need proven scorers now. We need proper, established strikers. Bale saved us this season, but imagine where we'd have been if we also had proper goal scoring strikers.

I assume though we are going for Villa, as this is now building a head of steam and AVB didn't dismiss it. I meant if we are then looking at another as well.

I'd say we need 3 established strikers and 1 hot prospect. Sell Ade and JD and bring in villa and benteke and another strong performer and bring through a hot prospect. That's the kind of level we need to progress and we have to be serious about it.

We need a total striking overhaul. It just can't continue as it has.

I think its pretty obvious we will be playing one central striker for the foreseeable future. I'd say then we need two out and out, plus one who can play wide or through the centre if needs be. Four is too many and you will never get them all games so is a waste in my opinion.

I think in this day and age when you play so hard and fast, you got to have resources to cover injuries. And if you are playing in europe consistently, you must have cover for rotation etc. or it will definitely affect your team - look at how EL affected us!

Offer AVB what i suggested and he'd bite yer 'and orf.

Two top strikers, one strong option and one being brought through. That's the formula for us... if we've leaned anything, that is.

Granted your point about left/right strikers in a three. Villa has that in his bag already.

You know, this time something tells me that they are going to buy a couple of really good players. Bastards.

Same here, their finances are starting to peak again post-stadium austerity. If we can take their Champions League space off them this weekend, it'll be massive for both clubs.
