I mentioned Illarramendi as a possible option about 3 months ago, although as usual I think he would be better anchoring a cm3. Nice to see that we finally take notice. Suspect 'Pool are strongly in for him as well though and have had him lined up for a while.

3 months ago and Levy has still not acted? What a disgrace! I bet if we do sign him he'll try to take the credit away from you too. I feel a strongly worded letter coming on.

I refuse to get excited about Illarramendi - I just think a bigger club will snap him up if he's available.

Would be 100% exactly what we need but I just can't see it.

Now having visions of if we got him and had snapped up Cabaye as well... It's beautiful...

Sorry, got a bit lost there. I would hope if we got him we'd switch to a 4-3-3 with him sitting In behind say Mason and Eriksen, with Chadli/Saido and Nigel either side of Kane, but who am I kidding, if there's one thing we'll definitely never achieve, it's switching to a 4-3-3...

Agree I think we are wasting our time chasing another player who is out of reach before we even begin.

I don't think Illaramendi is that unlikely, he isn't going to get a look in at Madrid, we can offer him a platform to be the primary midfield player for an upwardly mobile, prestigious club in one of the top leagues. And I'm not one of these morons who believes that 'special relationship' between us and Madrid guff, but we are on good terms with them as far as I know

I feel he is more likely than Kramer, who we are apparently still chasing. fingers very much crossed

Kramer started at the weekend with t'other Bender. I think that ship has sailed.

Ha! I'm just puzzled as to, if this is the guy Poch wants, how late this has cropped up considering Liverpool and others have been linked all summer... I'm not one to moan about doing business too late in the window, indeed I point and laugh at that type of poster, but it doesn't seem like we have moved quickly on this one.

Or maybe he is Plan D.....

I don't believe it!!!

People moan because we don't go for top players to improve our squad then, when we do, they just pooh-pooh it as being impossible to do because a bigger club will come in for him.

Why not wait and see before decrying everything?

But if we did that what would be the point of the ITK Thread :)

We only get Illarramendi if it's his most appealling option once the clock starts ticking down, and if it's us or Liverpool, which is reasonable to assume, you'd be moderately hopeful that his prospects could be better served with us. Of course wages could be a stickler.

Unfortunately I think he'll be this year's Moutinho.

In fairness though, Moutinho was Porto's key player, whereas Real Madrid have no real use for Illarramendi, so you'd think the negotiation would be a lot easier and if we do miss out then you'd imagine it'd be for a different reason

With all the media doom and gloom bout we desperate for striker added by weekend pundits may make West Brom stand firm and not budge as we really really really need another striker, especially if kane is feeling a calf strain. Our bargaining may be dented.

Just so long as Levy doesn't start down another path of endless haggling... :(

Not to mention 3rd party. That was the real reason the deal was too complicated, just like any other deal we try to do with 3rd party involvement.

Because the same people want to be the "I TOLD YOU SO, Same old Spurs" blah blah blah

I know what you mean, maybe he was seen as unobtainable by us at the start of the window but his situation has changed. Perhaps other clubs have gone for different targets? It's difficult to imagine him being plan D but with Kramer, Bender and Schneiderlin I guess it's not out of the question. Mind you I think there was ITK very early on that we'd be happy, even with our backup targets.

Agree.

Obviously if it comes off then great, but I always find it quite depressing when I hear we're after players from clubs like Real Madrid.

Cue most fans getting excited, which only heightens the anger & disappointment when we almost inevitably fail in our attempts to lure them.
