Latest ITK from Goat on "next level" striker options I find a bit odd.

In the modern game how many of this quality of striker is there? Messi, David Villa, Ronaldo, Benzema, Ibrahimovic, Tevez, Aguero, Torres, Falcao.

Thats not a very big list and every single one of those guys is on somewhere around double our top earner or more.

Someone with potential like Leandro Damaio seems more in line with what we can afford and the business we try to do.

I firmly believe (if he signs) Adebayor will be our big striker signing and could see Defoe, Kane and Bale as the back up options (tad worrying but I won't panic yet...I trust Villas Boas and Levy).

Anyone expecting a bigger signing than Ade I think will be disappointed. Just my opinion on it anyway...

But there's about 20297 strikers on the next level from Defoe and Kane .

I believe that AVB can get the best out of GIO and that he fits into our new 4-3-3 formation. I hope that GIO will want to be apart of our new regime and that he becomes the player we all thought he would be when he signed.

Liked for Erik the Viking. Also, agree. I have my doubts but stranger things have happened.

Well, I'm sure we all hope that, but let's not turn this into a dos Santos thread. There's one of those elsewhere in Transfer Rumours.

I think thats harsh....Defoe scored a lot of goals last season and Kane did incredibly well at Millwall. How many PL strikers in our range of affordability would you take over Defoe?

This "next level" is not achievable unless the club changes the wage structure - which it won't - and I am OK with that because I look at Portsmouth and its fucking terrifying.

Some more from JJ on what I assume was someone asking whether we're after anyone in Team GB:

Butland isn't fancied by our gk coach btw!! Welsh players in team GB are crap too! Come to think of it so are the English

While I know JJ is widely regarded on here, I simply have a hard time believing anyone at this point.

Obviously I hope he's wrong in this case, but for the most part, I won't believe anything (either way - good or bad) until I see some players mug on the THFC Official Site. I've gotten my hopes up too much this transfer window already dammit!

We don't need a bigger signing than Ade. But we do need someone who can rotate in that position as Ade might suffer injury, loss of form or need a rest now and again. Also worth remembering that he'll be away for 6 weeks of the season from January at the ANC. The prospect of Defoe playing up top on his own during that time is horrifying.
