But let's Assume Liverpool didn't know about the torres bid, they still agreed with Ajax for £23m so I presume the £40m will be extra to that. They would of had an initial transfer fund after all

Yeah let's assume something that is unlikely to be true

Peanut :

Had a go for Rossi, sniffed around Forlan, tried to get Fabiano on loan. None were ever close.

Harry hasn't been able to make his mind up, been very half-hearted about targets. He should have said 'go and get X because with him we will finish top 4'. He let us start talking to Ajax and then decided he didn't want Suarez after all.

I really do think it'd be worth trying for Falcao or Hulk, if we're stymied by wages we really have to aim for strikers on the up rather than on the way down with bloated wages. I think Fabiano, Forlan and co would do a decent job of improving us, but if we can't afford them so be it.

I think there's a lot more to run in this window, every final day always has a few surprises and with the money that's starting to move around (Suarez-Pool, Pazzini-Inter, Torres-Chelsea?) I think it's not out of the question that something may fall into our laps at the last minute. Not the ideal position to go into the end of the transfer window when we need a striker so badly, but I do understand Levy's need not to break the wage structure. I just wish we'd gambled a bit more with our scouting and realised how far out of our budget these players were earlier - it does all seem a little flat-footed.

He is a good coach but he has a small club mentality with the kind of players he is chasing, Neville/Parker/insert small club player or journeyman here, he seems to think he is managing a wealthier version of West Ham, we need someone in charge who has a big club mentality
I have to say that I actually agreewith Matt here. Its one of only two things I have been worried about since he came to the club.

Don't get me wromg. I love Harry, best manager since I have been a fan, bar none. But the small club/wheeling & dealing atttiude and the baseless player loyalties leave me stumped at times. I think what we are seeing is inexperience at the top. I just hope that it faals into place over the rest of this season.

Something tells me that they wouldn`t have doubled their bid for Suarez if they didn`t know that Torres was leaving.

How comes Adie has said we are close to every top striker in Europe and we end up with nothing? I know things change but surely not that many times

I really want to be annoyed at someone but the truth is no one here knows exactly why we haven't spent big, well, if it's Harry's stubborness, Levy's tightness or any other reason.

Makes it even more annoying seeing City sign Dzeko for big (ok maybe not big to them I guess), Liverpool splashing £23m, Chelsea offering £35m and Villa £18-24m for players they require.

You would have been happy spending £24m on Bent? Eek

Is anyone else angry with Harry yet, Just seen Peanuts latest ITK, been playing Snooker for 3 hours.

I'm very unhappy with Redknapp now, If we fail to get top 4 its his fault.

We should have bought Charlie Austin. Young, cheap as chips wages, resale value and knows where the goal is.

(Before of you guys blow a transfer window gasket, I am joking)

From what I hear he's not that much involved with coaching. More the picking team and man-motivation (if he likes the player)

Unfortunately we aren't going to get a Mourinho and the new generation of managers such as Vilas-Boas could end up like Ramos.

Is this opinion or fact from peanut?

Yeah, what a prick. How dare that twitchy faced bastard lead us to the CL, provide us with the finest season in 20 years and make us the most exciting team to watch in the league...

Any old manager could've signed a world class centre forward for a decent fee in a transfer window renowned for its frugality.

Bring back Christian Gross.
I wasn't calling for his head or anything, he's a fantastic manager, but when the funds are there and he's even been told by Levy to spend them it's horrendous. He's admitted himself that's he's uneasy about spending big, which is because of his small club mentality, which is what I said.

Spending big on a striker is a great idea. But if it's not the right one, the money's gone and the problem still isn't fixed. Would any of you have been thrilled if we'd bought Benty back?

This according to RBlanchflower from COYS who's Dad or someone had dinner with our manager:

Pav - the team is basically announced the day before a game, if not officially then a few set pieces are practised and everyone knows the starting lineup..........if it's an away game with a long journey and Pav isn't selected in the 11 he'll mysteriously pull up with an 'injury' that can't be diagnosed by the the doctors/physios

Strikers - our budget for wages is basically still £60k per week......we have no chance of getting anyone until we can afford to pay more

VDV - whatever he's being paid, we aren't paying all of it......Madrid still pick up some of the bill

Might be more to follow
I find that incredibly easy to believe.
