How comes Adie has said we are close to every top striker in Europe and we end up with nothing? I know things change but surely not that many times

Oh no he didn't!!!!

If that is true it is worrying though....that basically says he was prepared to go with somebody he wasn't sure about...but then changed his mind.

Why start talks about somebody if you're unsure.

So basically its a lack of decisivenss.

Is anyone else angry with Harry yet, Just seen Peanuts latest ITK, been playing Snooker for 3 hours.

I'm very unhappy with Redknapp now, If we fail to get top 4 its his fault.

Maybe not everyone's life revolves around ITK.

I tell you what, if Suarez turns out to be Kezman II, this thread should be put into SC Gold.

This has made Blue Moon tame.

but weve had 5 months!...we should already have alternatives...no?

Exactly.

From the moment Champions League football was guaranteed we should have been putting 100% effort in to finding the next level strikers which we so obviously need.

What worries me is that apart from Carroll (who Harry obviously wants) the rest of the current list we seem to working from are all big earners which we would have no chance getting. Forlan? Benzema? Fabiano? Aguero? Harry said it himself, we couldn't pay their wages even if we could pay the transfer fee. So, the question, why bother even going for them. The only gettable "star" forward was probably Suarez and seems Harry didn't rate the boy.

Perhaps we should dig a little deeper and try to unearth another Berbatov (who when bought wasn't as highly rated as the above) or take a calculated punt on a star from a smaller league like Modric. I hope our scouting network is actively doing this.

This really is a disaster if true. Liverpool are what 6/8 points behind? A striker can easily make that difference up, we don't have that striker.
we have a game in hand still plus suarez has to settle in anx torres could leave. they have to play all of the top 5 too. i don't expect us to get 4th but don't think pool will finish above us

Spending big on a striker is a great idea. But if it's not the right one, the money's gone and the problem still isn't fixed. Would any of you have been thrilled if we'd bought Benty back?
As much as Bent was bottom of my selection list when he was at the club, with VDV there for service I dare say he'd do a better job than Defoe or Crapch are doing right now.

The simple truth is that we just can't compete with the wage requirements... and doing it for one means doing it for many. Isn't gallas on a contract that matches his with the highest earner?

I have loved the ambition and dreams on this thread, but until we can rebuild our stadium, I fear we will have more windows like this.

what are the facts then ryan? cheers.

The facts are like I have said from day one.

Harry has concentrated on team matters. The board know who he does or doesnt want. Rossi, yes harry likes him, Forlan yes harry loves him, Fabiano harry liked him but the guy done the dirty on us in the summer, so harry felt used. Suarez, good player according to Harry, but when offered to you for £23m and you already have someone like Van der Vaart in that role, doesnt really stack up does it?

Harry asked for Carroll, we made 3 bids! all rejected. including one bigger than the one that took Bent to Villa.

Harry also said that he was happy with what we had. Keane is always gonna go, he has no bearing whatsoever on what we do inwards. Pav isnt happy. He instigated contract talks, and put down demands to play more. The guy wants reassurances, who can blame him? We received offers, he could go. but in the mean time, like Harry said today, who can we bring in on loan better than Pav? Loan to buy is the route Levy and Eales have taken, its the niche that they are looking to expose. However as it seems clubs want us to pay the full wage when we loan a player, not just 60-70% that we are offereing to...is harry in charge of that decision?

Harry wants Carroll!!

so forlan? Rossi? or anyone else? The board havnt delivered

yet!

You can't take ITK as fact though, just because ITK's suggest something does not make it so.

For example we have one set of ITK saying Benzema was here on monday and another saying they are told he was not, the two answers are mutally exclusive so one or the other has to have inaccurate information being fed to them.

ITK may give us explanations for the hows and whys we have not signed someone and it may appear to make sense an add up but that doesn't mean we are not taking 2 + 2 and getting 5.

I mean unless we have some first hand information on any such subject none of us really know what went down or is going on so we can't make judgements based on such things we don't really know the full story of in my opinion.

He is a good coach but he has a small club mentality with the kind of players he is chasing, Neville/Parker/insert small club player or journeyman here, he seems to think he is managing a wealthier version of West Ham, we need someone in charge who has a big club mentality
Unbelievable.

Fact is we don't know for certain what is happening behind the scenes and what discussions have taken place so it's hard to attribute blame on Harry and/or Levy on the basis of conjecture.

For the sake of a few days let's just see exactly what happens between now and Monday night and go from there.

If I didn't know any better, this sounds like pre-emptive "not my fault" propaganda from Levy. Hoping not though.

True, but if he turns out to be another Berba/Tevez/Torres/Drogba/etc then we have every right to be absolutely seething right now as more than a few are gutted that we have missed out on him..... For what it's worth I think we have missed out on a real star

If it's becuse of inflated prices for CFs who are still unproven, ageing or not much better than our current crop AND/OR not disrupting wage structure and team spirit, I'm OK with not signing anyone. Getting tired of this FM shite.

However, offloading Keane and signing a promising striker (Wickham, Kalinic, Hulk...), would be very nice.
