I will cry, if we sign no striker this month.

could be worse, could be a West Ham fan. Best case scenario: move to the Olympic stadium after 2012 and sit 40m from the pitch. Worst case scenario: get relegated...

... We might not get a new striker by the end of Monday. Boohoo with our desperate situation in 5th place, 3 points off 4th and only in the last 16 of the champions League.

You need to pick a line and stick to it. You use what ever is in the media to back you up, even it's contradictions. Harry is not going to draw attention to waht we're doing in the media. We have to chase more than one target because we are desperate for a striker, and we know we're not a United, Chelsea, City, Barca or Real who can buy whoever they want when they want. We follow a number of players, enquire, get rebuffed, move on. If we then think actually an improved bid is worth going for, we might go back.

There's no point just throwing all of our money at a player, and end up spending too much

great post:roll:....

getting boring now nic, change the fuckin record pal

We'd probably be able to afford him and then his work permit would get rejected.

If the transfer was agreed before the deadline but subject to a work permit, would it be allowed to overrun the deadline or would that have to be sorted before the deadline aswell?

Im aware of that mate, Its just the anti Harry brigade is based around false info as far as Im aware.

Harry wants the signing to take us on, and as far as I know we have worked hard to get that done, but people forget that these players are the properties of other team who quite rightly have protected there base.

This market is incredibly false. HR wants AC but at £30m  its like trying to justify Suarez at £24m

Harry has said these past 5 days, that we are working on lower risk loan to buy options. Who do you think is responsible for that? Is harry held accountable for our finances then?

Levy is held in high regard because of the hard bargains he thrives for. and quite rightly so. But why praise him for the Berba deal or the VDV deal or whatever, and when it goes wrong critisise the manager?

Double Standards there

i couldnt agree more abou the double standards mate but unfortunately i am only posting what i am told...

on para 1, got to be honest i think Suarez may well be worth 24 mil.

on para 2...that is a fair point

There is a difference between a preferred list of targets, working you're way from the top...and having a list of players with not really knowing who you're preffered choices are.

Perhaps there has been a degree of uncertainity over which players Harry wants to hang his hat on.

My guess is he's not that comfortable with big signings....only a hunch though.

They'll have known who they want and have a sensible strategy, but Harry will probably have said player x is worth y maximum. And they don't want to be stupid with the clubs money.

Problem is some people just want someone to blame. And when it comes to ITKs it's going to depend on who the source is, if it's close to Harry the slant is more likely to be pro Harry and anti Levy, and vice-versa.

Incredibly naive to think that a club like Spurs would have one target and one target only for a position. We aren't Chelsea or United, we can't unsettle players like they do by bidding. All of your info has anti Harry vibes.

To be fair, update 175 from Peanut said a similar thing, basically Harry being indecisive

Goal.com UK understands that the Premier League club will not
make another offer for Carroll unless there are firm signals from
Newcastle that they are prepared to negotiate with them.
Although Redknapp is a huge admirer of the 23-year-old’s power,
touch and ability to lead the line on his own, he believes he is too
raw to warrant a £30m fee.
He is preparing to look elsewhere now as other long-term
targets, such as Real Madrid ’s Karim Benzema, are believed to be
unavailable this month.
One possibility is a late move for Nicolas Anelka of Chelsea should
the London club complete a deal to sign Fernando Torres, who
has submitted a written transfer request to Liverpool.

What perplexes me is the public noises, from Harry saying the Chairman wants me to spend big, intimating we are very ambitious and then a week or two later there is no value in the market...we want loan to buys. Where is the prepartion in that? They only realised that now?....

I dont get that....when Harry said Levy wanted him to spend big I thought we were way down the road in terms of a big signing.

That says to me that we were nowhere near any deal and we wern't actively sounding out deals before the window opened - it would appear.

Yes mate he may well prove to be a £24m player, but in harry's eyes he would not be given enough of an opportunity to justify that at Spurs.

Darren Bent for instance, £16m player at spurs? didnt look it but £16m player at Sunderland? looked worth every penny!

Things will be going on behind the scenes, things that none of us will know about. 'Arry and DL obviously know how badly we need a new striker, they aren't just sitting by thinking "Aaah, it will be okay, Crouchy will be firing them in soon!"

HR wants to build a squad and DL wants to earn cash, it's in everyones best interests that we sign a striker.

I can't give too much away, but please dont listen to everything you read in the press. We are pushing on with two deals, I posted it into the ITK section, just waiting for it to be approved.

mate the club will have let us down tbh...

TBH, that is exactly what it will be, The club needs to buy a marque striker, if we don't, regardless of the reasoning, justification etc of why. it will, IMHO be a failure on their part.

yay nic this is GOOD post

tbf between levy & harrythey have to be culpable & it does seem that with no director of football strategy things do seem harder to do...

comolli had his knockers but at least it was HIS call to identify from the managers list of targets

No, transfer would be conditional on work permit being granted. If permit refused, transfer deal would lapse and player would stay with the selling club.

did carrol sleep with your missus or something?? I struggle to believe you when you say you have watched him lots of times. He is a complete battering ram of a forward, one of the best in the league at attacking the ball in the air, fantastic shooting ability, good movement, and a fair bit of pace (no not lennon like but he isnt slow) I get the impression many on here think that all he is good at is attacking the ball in the air! That is how newcastle play, hence why most of his goals are headers but saying that is all he can do is a huge injustice to the guy! I personally would love him at spurs, the amount of times bale and lennon whip in balls that our strikers just watch wizz across the penalty box is so frustrating, carrol puts his body on the line everytime and attacks every single ball that newcastle ever put in the box, this is what we need! he is also great at holding up the ball, something else which we lack, the ability to bring in the midfield to the attack!

And to all those criticising harry! get a grip! he has taken us on miles! we are in the fucking champions league, we won our group! that included inter! we are even though many of you seem to think were not, well in the race for a top 4 place, harry wants what is best for the club, he wants a team, not a collection of players that we were before him!

grrrrrrr.

I truly would love Carroll. While the money seems astounding, the issue is what he might be worth to us. Can he pull together the strengths of the team to make us better? Yes. Can he play in all competitions? Yes. Can he help us stay in the top 4? No guarantee, but I think he might.

I've just read over 30 pages of waffle. These are by far the best two posts in this thread. Most of the rest of you, on a variety of issues, appear to have drunk the goofy juice with your breakfast!

great point

like ive just said ryan i think that without a director of football strategy we can become clouded & indecisive on targets...

pro redknapp or anti redknapp or even people undecided on this must agree that between the BEST chairman in the league & one of the BEST managers in the league we have *f*cked up

* so far:wink:
