Tbh I'm sure players like Berbatov, Modric, Bale, Assou-Ekotto and Gomes wouldn't have even been on Redknapp's radar. If he had got his way in the summer Joe Cole would have signed for us and VdV would be plying his trade elsewhere. It's frightening to think we are still after barely above average local talent like Scotty Parker and Phil Neville.

No, in this day and age it's far too much responsibility to have the manager running pretty much everything, which is why we (and all clubs) have such extensive scouting networks.
The manager may get the final say but he's not expected to know about every up and coming player out there!

Saying that, 'Arry's probably one of the most knowledgeable out there but even he can't keep up with the hoardes of FM'ers out there!:grin:

We need Frank Arnesen back really tbh, go back to the DOF system, yes Frankie bought largely shit but he was doing a complete rebuilding job and had little money so had to bargain hunt, with lots of money at his disposal he would close some good deals

What if bringing in Neville and parker would mean an improved attitude within the squad, I'm not saying they are unprofessional but having two model pro's around the place can only help. Maybe even show the younger players the way forward ie bostock, parrett

But don't we already have these sorts of players. Guys like Dawson, VdV, Modric, King, all seem like sensible lads, model pros. :shrug:

As much as I want to disagree with you because of my "so called" trust in Harry, I really can't!

Carroll could well be the next David Bentley. Big fish in small pond but when you put it in a bigger pond with bigger fish it goes missing

Doesn't surprise me one bit. Given Harry's transfer record so far it was a given that an English based player would be his first choice. Not that I'm against Carroll though. Would probably do a very good job for us.

It seems that the Carroll chase is gaining pace. I'm sure that Ashley will cave in if the price is right but the worry is Pardew throwing a major tantrum. Maybe Pav as a makeweight (if he is prepared to go to Toonland) might soften the blow for Pardew. It is pretty obvious that Carroll is Harry's target hence perhaps his indifference about going for other options. The icing on the cake would be Benzema (maybe on loan) as a backup. Still three days to go so anything can happen.
