Err what's your point? Yes, I think if our strikers had hit the goals they did last year we would be higher in the table. This season they've all been pretty poor and I'm sure they'd be the first to say they've not got nearly enough.

That is surely obvious if our strikers score more we would be higher up the table. My point was that we are not being carried by vdv and bale whilst showing it doubtful that if they had not scored the goals that they have it would be unlikely for us to be in a relegation battle ad stated by another poster

I think the fact people know there capable of it is what makes it so frustrating. It's pure desperation why a lot of these rash remarks are being made. I'm not really comfortable, half a season in, "hoping" at least one of our four strikers(if we still have keane) find some sort of form and most importantly goals.... Fingers still crossed Levy pulls something out of the bag.

That's my view really too. Although to me defoe will definitely start scoring, he's looking sharper all the time. This certainly no need for matts nonsense.

Let's not forget we had the most incredible November and December. A few blips in January oes not mean we are finished

I've got bad feelings regarding andy caroll bids, Harry certainly thinks we have bid. He is Harry's number 1 target. But then it is released from insiders we havnt bid. All this after newcastle announce they rejected a bid.

What if levy doesn't want Carroll and is using his friendships up the north east to suggest we are trying for Harry, to no avail, but all the while offering different options in reality!
I hope that is the case as spunking anything more than £10m on a modern day Duncan Ferguson who has only done it for 4 months so far would be insane. Maybe Levy is being sane in a insane market where a novice like Carroll is quoted as being a £25m+ player....

I'd be OK with this to be honest. Levy is well aware of Harry's dirty tricks, hence if he employed a few of his own I would not hold it against him.

For my part the hype around Carroll is ridiculous. I watched him 3 times live in the championship last year alongside this season. A physical presence, yes, but only effective if you play to his strengths. Put him in a decent side who play and he doesn't have the attributes IMO. Slow touch (in the same way Crouch has), slowish over 10 yards and no real guile. He is also an complete knob (confirmed by many locals last week when we were in Newcastle). The lights of London would make it worse! Keep a healthy distance Levy!

Where would we be but for Bale and VDV's goals ? Hutton and Lennon would be our top scorers, in terms of goals VDV and Bale have been carrying us because we have 4 strikers who make Jason 'pineapple head' Lee seem like Van Basten this season

Last season we played 4-4-2, this season we are playing 4-4-1-1.

This makes a big difference, if the roles were reversed and Pav or even Rk started as much games as VDV; VDV will not have as much goals as Pav currently has coming off the bench or making less appearenace.

Firstly, we have 4 strikers fighting for 1 slot (PC, RP, RK, JD) how much game time do you expect to get to build that confidence to bag in the goals. Certain players can perform as a lone strike without a question however we don't have that striker. In as much as i love having VDV onboard but this has played a major factor in our strikers hitting the back of the net more often than it is required for pushing for a top 7 finish.
Not blaming Harry as it will be mad not to play VDV in your starting 11 unless you are Real Madrid.

I could bet my last dollar we will get more goals with this combination upfront:

PAV + JD
PAV + PC
PAV + RK ???
JD + PC
PC + RK

As oppose to a combination of:
VDV + PAV
VDV + PC
VDV + JD (well not seen much of this, but bet VDV wont score that mean with this)

VDV has triumph in this formation but it is taking a big hit from our strikers.

In as much as i think the striker should be scoring much more however this will not change with our current striker until we start playing 4-4-2.

If Pav was not a spurs player, i can see him as one of those players that will be on the ITK short list.

The goal against Chelsea was not luck but it was a goal from a true top class striker; if PAV goes to Sunderland or any top 8 club i bet you he will be on a min of 20 goals a season. Harry does not fancy him but here shit happens.

Not saying we should ignore the negatives, but please can we stop with the overly dramatic "save our season" nonsense?

Could be that Levy would issue a denial that they'd bid for Carrol if they HAD, that bid had been rejected by club or player, and they wanted to make Llorente feel like he was their number one choice, and not a back up...?

It is amazing how many contradictions there have been this window. Some say we have made a bid, others say we have not. It goes to show that having ITKs leaves you just as confused and clueless of what is going on then if there were no ITKs.

Berba and Keane was our last great partnership. before that Klinsmann and Teddy. Now our current crop lack intelligence. Its VDV + 1. I don't believe we need a battering ram or a tall player. Just a striker who can get into the right positions and finish. I don't believe Keane has been given a fair crack of the whip.

This 4-4-1-1 talk is bollocks.

VDV plays exactly where Keane has been for years

I said the exact same thing this morning. Someone said to me "well, Keane's only been 4th choice this season..." and I said, well 5th choice really, as VDV as directly replaced Keano's old role anyway.

So, as has been said a few times on here the past few days, Keane going does not mean we'll sign a striker, in fact we probably won't! We have 4 forwards as things stand, Defoe, Crouch, Pav and VDV.

Keane (Pre the liverpool move) scored goals and assited didn't he. Guess what? it was 4-4-2 as well. 4-4-1 formation produces less goals FACT!!!

Give me 3 teams with this foramtion that bag in the goals??? and dont mistake 4-4-1 to 4-3-3.

Agree, have tried to make this point numerous times.
