I see the same people who heralded Martins as the second coming a couple of years ago are now declaring him the same level as Dan James... glad we are still looking and if Conte wants a rapid ball carrier then hope we get one over the line.

Would I have liked some better quality CB/Attacking depth? Sure. But, we’ve got a hectic 2ish months to get through before the World Cup (believe November 12th is our last match until December 26th). Navigate that time period, and the relative break in action allows us to bridge to the January Window, where we may find ourselves in better position to land the Bentancur/Kulu types for the remainder of the season. Not all hope is lost for me, even if we are feeling like our window petered out a bit.

I remember the deadline day ITK forum in 2017 when someone mentioned Jesus which was incorrectly inferred as a cryptic, connected with Jorge Jesus the Sporting CP manager and then to Gelson Martins who was playing for Sporting. And a collective wank fest over his skill compilation videos ensued...

That’s some pretty deep background research you’ve done there, have you got a precise list of the members who have made both these statements ? ?

This has actually happened. 2017 deadline day, and I clearly remember that discussion here. The hype was unreal and equal to what we had for Luis Diaz a couple of months ago

Good take.

I'm a little disappointed that despite the number of players brought in, we've not really addressed our most pressing concerns and barely improved our already-established XI. If Lenglet takes over from Davies and regains his form and Spence likewise exorcises the ghost of Emerson, then that, for me, takes away some of the disappointment. However, as you say, there are a lot of factors involved, and regardless of any disappointment (or in my case, the occasional green-eyed monster with regards to other clubs), we ARE better equipped this season than last and have significantly improved the overall squad.

We've taken a step forward, and as long as Conte is happy and believes we're living up to his expectations, I'm pretty happy with where we are going. This is only his second window. Let's see where we are in a few more when other players who might fit with what Conte is trying to do will hopefully become available.

As for Gelson -- who knows? I never rule anything out until the morning after when we know for sure what's gone on. We still have Levy as chairman. I bet he's in the office right now, a cold sweat forming on his shiny pate and his todger at half-mast in anticipation of a last-minute special.

Well this is just nonsense.

Look at Dele Alli.

I think at 3pm on deadline day any even half decent player becoming available is incredibly unlikely. No team is going to sell a player they value now. Gelson and James are just sub par options that would offer nothing we don’t already have better in Lucas. My concerns for the teams strength in attack really comes from how willing Conte is to play Gil. If he doesn’t then we will be in trouble. Really tho, i think once we decided not to pay what Roma wanted for Zaniolo our window, at least as far as immediate quality incomings, ended. I would have been curious what would have happened if Zaniolo and Bastoni had signed new contracts and I do feel our squad is thin considering the schedule but zero point in filling it with players we’d be trying to loan out this time next summer.

Yes- I’d say that Gil would need to feature more if he stays. I’m not massively confident we’ve bought enough attacking wise to hold our own in the top four should Son or Kane get injured or are out of form. I’m not criticising the club; we’re still making amends for 2018 summer window and we’re going to need a couple more windows to get everything in place

Absolutely true. My only caveat to that is that the information blackout at the club appears to have kicked in a couple of days ago so there's the possibility that they're in the final stages of an interesting move.

Probably not, but maybe.

Wishful thinking pal, think all signs pointing to nothing further happening.

Zaniolo is different but don't see Bastoni refusing to sign a contract with Inter over the course of this season.

This seems to be the quietest deadline day ever. I don't know if that's because I've not got SSN on or whether there's not much fanfare generally. I know Romano is going frantically at Twitter but he's covering like the entirety of Europe!

Glad I didn't take the day off as I used to, but I've still been distracted.

My gut says "no noise is good" but also that "no noise means that nothing is happening".

Wanted the buzz, not necessarily anything to come from it. Shame.
