Akqayid's Twitter account appears to now be defunct as of about 30 seconds ago...

Will he resurface here or via Twitter under another pseudonym?

He might not have used it since Tuesday but it was actually deactivated this evening, I know cos my Followers list went down by one as I refreshed the page, and I wondered why and sussed out it was cos Akqayid was no more.

Well perhaps if you weren't so aggressive, people would feel more inclined to reply to your posts properly. Occasionally, people will have a different opinion to you. I wasn't saying that I don't buy that all of those media reported events happened on deadline day (although I am dubious about some), I was saying that I don't buy that it wasn't ultimately our fault that the deal didn't get done. Moutinho apparently wanted to come, AVB wanted the deal, Levy looked like he was happy to do the deal, so why did we mess it up?

And yes, I do think putting transfers together can be a piece of piss; there are many examples out there that prove just that. Take the Dembele deal - we put in a reasonable offer (one that met his buyout price if reports are to be believed), it was accepted, we agreed terms with the player and it was done. All in the space of a few hours/days (not sure when the offer went in). What isn't easy is when Levy offers 20p for a player when the club want 20 million pounds and we spend all summer long trying to meet somewhere in the middle. Like I said in my original post, I don't blame Levy for this, and it often gets us cheaper deals, but just now and again, when the player is special and the number one choice of the new manager, I wish that Levy would go in with a reasonable offer that is not entirely insulting to the player and the selling club, and just get the job done.

Yes, all these factors seemed to have been in place. Levy was willing to top our existing transfer record by a cool £10m. Yet 'we' messed it up. Why do you make this assumption? And on what grounds?

It seems that Dembélé, unusually for an EPL player, did have a buy-out clause, and once we met it and the player was agreeable to the move Fulham had no choice but to accept it. In fact the great majority of our transfer deals of the past few years have gone through pretty smoothly and without too many hold-ups. It's just a few high-profile and potentially very expensive ones that have got Levy this reputation. And really, when you say Levy offers '20p' it's an absurdly silly exaggeration, isn't it? Was a £25m offer for Moutinho 'insulting'. Were you complaining about Real's efforts to get Modric on the cheap? Shakhtar were reported to be 'outraged' by a near-£10m bid for Willan—the guy's playing in a shit league, has one year left on his contract (I think, but am open to correction), so what is so outrageous about that? Then it turns out they wanted the thick end of £30m. Well, fuck off.

I want Moutinho just as bad as the next guy, but I refuse to allow myself to get excited anymore.

I will instead hope for younger signings that have the potential to double/triple their value...

Not sure if it was mentioned on here (I'm way too lazy to even look just one page back)...

But:

Sevilla have spoken out, revealing that the club rejected a £20 million offer for star striker Alvaro Negredo on transfer deadline day. This report comes after Tottenham reportedly made a transfer bid for the star player, despite being one of the busiest clubs at the end of the transfer window period.

‘A club from England went to £20million on deadline day for Negredo,’ revealed chairman Jose Maria del Nido. ‘Negredo was not interested in the offer. That was not a day to do business.’

I'm not sure if that's the quote they were referring to but that quote hardly says it's Tottenham and despite the 'rumor' line I don't think it can be established for sure it was us. To me, it could just as easily of been Liverpool which was why he rejected it (pure speculation). Unless I missed something.

I'd take the Sevilla chairman's words pretty lightly.
He's probably trying to sell his solidarity to the fans or something by representing that he's holding onto their best player 'despite interest'. Nothing has come out on our side either so, sure, even if true I doubt it's us.

Sorry - I appreciates this weakens the point of your post. For the benefit of other readers, let me assure you, spud is more than justified in his ignorance... err... as it were. (Bill_Oddie)
Having resisted all previous temptation, I've just selected 'ignore' for the first time. Bye bye dudespur.

Most gratifying.

Well, that was fun, wasn't it?

I'm afraid if there's one thing I won't stand for on SC it's this.

Not his behaviour, his language, his abuse of fellow posters, his swearing at A&C (let's face it, it's hard NOT to most days), or his lack of any noticeable engagement of his brain, but rather I mean the shame he has brought to the movie The Big Lebowski. How he could bring shame to The Dude like that I don't know. But I won't stand for it.

As you were, everyone.

Moutinho switched agents from Pini Zahavi to Jorge Mendes. Clearly not happy that he wasn't able to join us this summer.
