I don't think we quite agree because I don't think AM moved quicker (or showed more interest). He isn't saying they were the fastest club to put an acceptable offer together, he is saying a prem club (presumably us) had an acceptable offer on the table but a preferable one came in from AM. He says the preference came from footballing reasons, but he would say that so we'll probably never know on that score. I believe him though - AM are a decent team with CL football.

I agree that CL was a big factor (and said so in my previous post), but I don't think it's the only factor.

That suggests that it was AM's actual method, as well as their offer of CL, that persuaded him.

Thanks and sorry, I knew that! The wtf meant "how very dare they?". Captain Scarlet using CGI as opposed to dodgy puppetry. I saw some earlier on youtube and it was a bit weird to say the least.

Anyway back on the real subject I'm kinda glad all this Rooney stuff is being made into such headline making news. I feel the press are looking at any angle to have digs at a number of clubs at the moment. best to keep our head down below the parapet and get our business done (as fast as poss). Please!

To stop on topic, I'm going to agree with Mr Pink's thoughts (just about the Benteke transfer mind you ), in that it might take another ten days, but I don't think it'll drag out until the end of the window.

The problem is we have pretty much hit the wall and been treading water the last 7 years since Jol got us within a dodgy lasagna's bite of CL qualification. We have had good players since and they have gone because we have stagnated rather than pushed on and though Harry managed fourth place twice his comments were pretty much spot on "this is as good as it gets" he knew that because Levy wasn't prepared to go the extra yard to give us the extra depth to be sure of tying up a CL place
We have Bale for now but does anyone seriously believe he will be here next season if we don't have CL, will AVB want to stick around if Bale is off and as likely a few of the other players in the squad like Sandro, Verts and Lloris if they see us not getting CL football
Oh we have a lovely new training ground, not that it's helped to entice David Villa or a couple on Croation kids though no doubt it has it's merits even if the biggest one might be to boost the fixed assets value to make the club look better for sale at a big price
A new stadium is a great idea too. even if it's been mainly talked about for years and we are still awaiting the first brick to be laid, but you need a successful and entertaining team to fill a bigger stadium especially the lucrative corporate boxes. Personally I'd rather have had some of the moneyt spent on the new training facilities spent on building a team with enough depth of quality to have at least given us that little few points extra edge to have consolidated a regular top four place and CL football and used the money from the CL revenue to fund the training facility rather than the other way round
It's no good looking at failure of others to measure our success but instead we have to look at the success of others to measure it. We have won a CC and qualified for the CL once in the last 13 years, we might have kept decent books and accounts in that period but when did anyone last go to see an open topped bus parade to cheer a years accounts ?

It's time for Levy to go that extra yard and give a manager the tools to really do a job rather than leaving important tools missing, until he does I'll stick with the line I used to get on my school report-"must do better", that sums up Levy and ENIC's tenure for me, maybe OK is you aren't too bothered about actual success on the pitch, but no cigar

The training centre is an investment for the future. It could save us millions if it helps us develop players.

It cost 30m to build, some of which will have been paid through sponsorship. Yes, we could have spent that on players but there is no gaurentee that it would have got us CL. We could have gotten another Bent & Bentley or another Modric and Berbatov who knows.

It may seem that we have been treading water for the last 7 years but we have 2 teams in our league with unlimited funds (1 that only become rich within those 7 tears) 1 team with the most successful manager in the history of the top divison in England, whilst we are trying to compete with the 10th biggest stadium in the league.
