Chelsea apparently are interested in Benteke - doesn't surprise me at all...some similar qualities to that of Drogba.

Honestly, what would be the point of that for them, Lukaku would be royally miffed off and he proved last season he is a beast in this league aswel.

Edit: nothing against your post Mr P my good man, all angst straight at Chelsea :)

More than type of player (and Carroll showed some great linking up-play at toons tbh) is the whole one season wonder thing: much like Cisse, Carroll, Jelavic and others it's a question of being able to do this not just one season. For instance we're now being linked to Krkic (sorry about the spelling) who was amazing when he first turned up for Barca, but has since struggled to maintain the form.

And this is why Benteke is a risk, IF he doesn't deliver. Furthermore, while you're partly right that it's not that much of a risk in long-term financial terms (wage, sell-on even if he fails, etc.), I can't see us investing 15m+ in more than one striker, and he'd bloody well deliver next season...

Every transfer carries a degree of risk. You could argue that Villa is more risky than Benteke even though the fee would be a lot lower. His wages would be considerably higer, he's much older and has had a very bad injury and long lay off as a result (I'm desperate for him to sign by the way)

Yes anybody can have a good season and then fall off the edge of earth etc...but I just see a lot in Benteke's all round game. He's shown a lot of quality in different areas of the game - his game looks so complete and once a bit more refined I think he'll be awesome. Carroll doesn't have that to his game, and although he had that purple patch at Newcastle I was never really convinced by him.

I think Benteke will go on to have a massive career - just my onion though, we'll see and time will tell.

I think Benteke is better personally mate. Although Lukaku had a bloody good season. Mourinho may want two uber forward types and to sell Torres and Ba.

Anyway, back on topic!

Chelsea collect promising players like I collect Readers Wives magazines.

but you think we should be linked (and presumably buy) Demba Ba? who had ONE GOOD SEASON in England..?

edit: beaten by the ****y bear

That's debatable though isn't it?
He was shoved out of position by Pardew because they brought Cisse.

He did ok at Chelsea also.

Benteke cost £20M +
Ba Cost £15M max

Yes it's very debatable, the **** didn't score for 6 months! Pardew doesn't have the tactical nous to 'shove him out wide', he was playing a bastardised 442 with Ben Arfa doing what Modric did for us when he was in the free wide role.

People can defend Ba all they like but he's a bang average striker for me.

some good noises coming from the ITK's.

If we could secure Villa and add Benteke to that front line we'd be looking very very strong.

Can't remember what game it was, but Benteke played really well and scored in a game Villa had to win to stay up. He showed a lot of qualities - pace, shooting, strength, hold up play etc etc (iirc he took it passed the defenders out wide to the edge of box and scored from a very tight angle). I think he's the real deal and confident he's not the 1 season wonder but I guess only time will tell.

The biggest question would be IF (a very big IF) we did sign Villa and Benteke...would we let both Defoe and Ade go or just one of them??? Who knows. Maybe not a debate for this thread.

Like I said regardless of if it happens, I like the noise :)
