Really interesting stuff. I'd love to know why we're letting Mourinho rebuild the team but wouldn’t let Pochettino do it. My guess has always been that when Pochettino was offered second choice targets he told Levy to get bent so everything became unworkable. Who knows...

I'd say it's more simple than that, Poch told them we desperately needed a rebuild, meanwhile there's this world class manager saying how fantastic our squad is and that he can get a tune out of them so you go for that as it's an easier fix than a rebuild. Now he's had time to have a proper look he's saying "yep the previous guy was correct you need a total rebuild" You have no choice but to accept that is the case when two managers have said the same thing.

There's many other factors that belong in a different thread, but JJ and other ITKs have been clear that Poch was going to be given time to rebuild, but he simply wasn't in a position to continue until the next window.

The levels of entitlement in this thread are astounding, if not wholly unexpected.

“I want Spurs to develop in line with what I want, and I’ll both and complain when (funnily enough) they don’t.”

o_O
Entitlement seriously we have not won a title for nearly 60 years in case you missed that stat!!

I read that we are amateurs in the window when in fact our new manager wants to rebuild the whole team with different players to previously what we looked at under MP and as he has been here only 2 months its a change in direction. So we cant or wont exactly go out and buy a whole new team in January!
His team will revolve around Tanguy who he believes is top class. Add in Harry Sonny Alli Toby Hugo and you have the spine
Slowly things will evolve but i fear not at the pace for a lot of people on here but that is the reality.
Please do not post this anywhere else.
I also can concur with the others when they say that we are now actively looking at bringing in players especially in midfield.
Thank you
Thank you JJ. The news on JM’s rating of Tanguy would explain his frustration at his injury issues. Rather than “throwing him under a bus” as a few on here claimed, it seems he’s desperate to get him up and running so he can start getting his preferred method of playing underway.

I never really expected to see us shell out much this window and said as much in an earlier post, but I fully expect him to be backed come Summer. Everything is in place now bar the playing staff, so I’m expecting us to do a great deal of business in the closed season.

We have earmarked 5 key players, not necessarily the biggest names that we want by summer window. Anyone signed now either way would be on that list. They are RB/CB who can play across the back/2 midfielders of which one specialist DM/ Striker, who as well as playing if H rested etc, one who could also play with him, and versatile. Some of JM’s early targets deemed too expensive. But alternatives he is happy with. Aside from the obvious names out there, there is a list of players and their agents; more so we are engaged with the actual agents.
That's 4 is it not. What position is the 5th?

Would it not be a Eriksen replacement?

So a total rebuild it is then so pretty much exactly like Poch was saying but we didn’t trust him to rebuild the squad like we do Jose for some reason.

I totally appreciate that a squad rebuild will take a minimum of 2 years but I doubt Mourinho will still be here in that time. No chance of top 4 this season and assuming we sign a few as phase 1 of the rebuild in the summer it’s going to be a big ask to integrate those players well enough to make top 4 next season at which point I’d imagine shine head will get rid then we can go through another rebuild.
The thing is while any rebuild is taking place you still need to pick up results. Poch had lost too many of the players due to his own stubbornness.

There was no way he'd have turned it round. None whatsoever.

I think herc has put slashes in instead of commas. He is saying RB, CB, 2 midfielders and a Striker. Makes 5 in total.
Ahh right. It's just the 'play across the back' bit that made it sound like 1 player. I would hope one of those midfielders was an Eriksen replacement but it appears not if Gedson is coming in.

Last year it was Lo Celso plus another creative if Eriksen was to leave although that may have changed now Jose is in charge.

JJ's post doesnt really calm me if I am honest. I remember him saying "Jan will be fun" well 2 potential loans and waiting to summer isnt my definition of fun.

Weve needed a DM, RB and LB for 2 years now and they havent been sorted. Thats negligence. To say we now have to wait another window to sort any of these is embarrassing regardless of if we have switched Managers and back room staff. Im not expecting to get all those positons sorted in Jan but at the very least 1 should be. 2 loan signings because of injuries mean they replace existing players rather than add to the squad and fill the holes. That is not how you progress.

Summer will be more excuses and more disappointment. The standard pattern of very positive ITK which slowly morphs into negative info and excuses has already begun and we arent half way through the month yet lol. This is by no means a dig at ITK as I appreciate the info, Im just feeling let down again by the club.

Unfortunately I'm inclined to agree. The lack of not utilising recent past windows to upgrade/fix issues coupled with dud purchases in windows before, the situation is now biting us on the ass. We are now left with a rebuild under the standard constraint of balancing the books. Only problem is, how much are we going to bring in for the players we don't want. Likes of Eriksen, Wanyama, Rose etc? Not much. That'll mean more Del Boy like ducking and diving in the market throwing darts out and seeing what hits. With that in mind, I really wouldn't be surprised if Mourinho is open to shifting someone like Winks in order to free up funds.

Another one for the summer: McNeil of Burnley. Very talented and young. Spurs very interested, but like with Eze not happening in this window due to other priorities. We’re interested last summer but focus was elsewhere.

Like the look of this kid. Bags of potential and could really push on.

So club recognizes need to sign midfielders and HG talent, that's a start. Don't think McNeil will find room in starting 11 but good option for the future, him and Eze.

I suppose from a chairmans point of view, who do you trust more to spend millions....a guy who has won multiple leagues around Europe, a couple of European trophies, countless league cups around Europe..

or..

someone that has won the Audi cup?!

Back on track, thanks for the info today ITK’ers. Always appreciated, even if it’s not always what we all want to hear!

Thats pretty fucking hard on the best manager we've had in decades.

The signals coming out are mixed as well, José might be backed after all, but as has been mentioned, his first choice picks has been deemed too expensive. The key is therefore to get it right with his second choices, and not just scattergun for players.

McNeil has a very sweet left foot with a eye for goal I can see him being of interest to a lot of good teams in the summer
