Do we have anything to suggest he sees them as ready this season?

For a long time on this site there have been fans that think if a player isn’t good enough then a youngster will do.

No Prem seems to operate in this way by just throwing youngsters in. Imagine if Romero got injured and Phillips was forced to play despite being nowhere near ready for this level.

It’s be carnage.
I think since Ange put Phillips on the bench ahead of Dier then that tells us he's more willing to rely on the youngster. He has played a few games at Blackburn (not many but still).

I personally don't think they are "Ready" but I believe that playing a few premier league games in place of Romero or Van de Ven would be good for their development and would put a lot of people's minds at rest. If Sanchez goes I think we'll see him start to get minutes later in matches that we are winning comfortably

Haha, nothing to do with info, just that I think given the lack of options, right now it seems the most likely. I might be well wide of the mark. He might be happy to wait until January, or whenever.
Can we release him and he walks as a free agent? I'd think he'd take a healthy lump sum severance and then take a contract at a bottom half prem team... like Chelsea 😉

Big difference in potentially being used as a sub and having to play full games.

We had at June 22 in rough numbers

£230m cash on the BS partly reflecting £100m of the £150m potential capital increase Enic talked about

£850m in very LT loans with about £20m a year interest

The Cash flow statement to be fair showed from £85m of operating cash the club spent a net 70m on players although not sure why they continue to spend £30m a year on fixed assets post the stadium build - local property?

But v much living within our means

imagine 23 accounts will be similar

I don’t know how it works for borrowing money to build a football stadium, but unless that’s at a fixed rate for the duration of the loan, I guess our repayments may have gone up to service our debts?

I know it’s a while back but when Arsenal build their place, I seem to remember quite a long period when they couldn’t splash cash with their fans pouring hate on their board.

I get the impression he wants to move back to Sporting. I reckon he might just sit it out until Jan and then see if it’s possible then.
I thought he left on pretty bad terms with them. He spoke out against contracts Portuguese clubs were using on young players.

I think in the Eric Dier doc on Spurs Play or whatever we call it, he said that the Sporting president or someone was putting out the negative stories about him because they knew there was going to be fan backlash about letting him go or something?

Prof on COYS re Lloyd Kelly:

Bournemouth wanted a price significantly beyond what any of the interested teams were willing to pay, which was a bold decision given his contract expires in less than a year. Maybe they feel they can use the extra time to persuade him to sign a contract extension. If that doesn’t work out, they’ll either have to sell him in January or lose him for free next summer. The current plan is for us to try again in January and/or June. Of course, those plans could be changed by another team being willing to pay more than us in January, injuries (either to him or to one of our key players), loss of form, or higher-rated players becoming available.

Are we going to get one of those ITK deadline day examinations? Telling us what we went for, where we fell down etc? Who the mystery player at Hotspur way was etc.

Lots of people saying we should have spent another £75m-£100m based on the Kane sale are forgetting one fundamental problem this year. No UCL (or European football) will see us drop 23/24 revenues by circa £70m to £100m. Before we even factor in we will play probably 6 less home games this season (which generate circa £2.5m a game). So the club has taken a massive hit over not qualifying for Europe and going out right away in the League Cup. So I think what’s been done has been a very pragmatic rebuild and in Ange there is a coach that could very much pull off success with it. I am no Levy apologist (in fact last year I considered letting out season tickets go after 12 years as I despaired at the clubs direction). By the way next financial accounts the at include last years UCL monies will probably be excellent, but it’s the ones after that that will suffer and they are the ones that will effect this and Januarys window. We can hope we sell a few to Turkey and Saudi to have funds for January.

I'm 99% sure it's fixed and at a fantastic low rate as well , over 25 or 27 years i believe ?? I am much less sure on this point, but i seem to think it worked out as us paying about £40m a year for the loan and interest

Underwhelming. Kelly is not a player that has the vibes similar to VDV, and it may block the path of Phillips and Dorrington to first team.

I’d say it’s promising if we go after Lloyd Kelly again.

Micky will need a break and competition for his place. A young, hungry, homegrown, quick, left footed, youth international centre back who’s showing plenty of promise would be perfect. Left centre backs will always be in high demand in the modern game so I’d see this move as a good investment.

I don’t really know what’s not to like. The argument that pathways to the first team will be blocked is a nonsense as far as I’m concerned. If they’re good enough, they will play. We can’t wait around on youth players, just in case they reach a high enough standard. You have to be productive to move forwards.

If they are, great - it’ll provide even more healthy competition, or 100% profit if we decide to sell them instead In order to reinvest elsewhere in the squad, ie like Chelsea have done.

I don't even know where to start with this... the stadium was always there to increase the value of Tottenham and spark further revenue streams for the ENIC kitty. The Kane deal was 75% upfront.. it is already confirmed we can spend over £400 million and still keep within FFP. I don't know how people still don't get it.
Plenty of posts telling us how much the club can spend, but not one from anyone who knows what financial ratios and covenants they have to observe under the terms of their loans.

You can be certain, though, that there are many restrictions we know nothing about. Lenders don’t hand out £850,000,000 of long-term credit and simply trust the borrower to be careful.

We dont really need that CB to be better than VVD or the same as him really considering minutes will be sparse.

- Has the right kind of profile that Ange needs.
- Will be cheap (we arent spending 20m+ on a back up)
- Is HG

It makes sense when you consider all of these factors.

We would all like a top level HG player but The ones that are out there are going to cost north of 40m and probably dont want to come and be a back up.

We would all love to have a scenario similar to City but they are almost guaranteed 60+ games a season, Pep always rotates them, they get paid a huge salary and City are okay paying 40m Plus for them all.

We have to do it differently and Ange strikes me as a coach who prefers a consistent CB pairing

Ange has said like 5 times in pressers already he doesn't want to the same types of players for each position, so why would he want someone with the same strengths as VDV?

It would be madness but would anyone be surprised if we (Levy) left Ange with Romero, VDV, Phillips and Dorringtin until January to add a few million to the bank? I can’t say I would be.
As much as I’m against leaving Ange short I have the following views:

1) It’s the last chance for us to get money for these two players.
2) Selling them means Levy has to buy a CB IN January as we’d short in CB when the FA cup cokes around.

Personally I think we shouldn’t sell but I can see Levy wanting to cash in now!

Centre backs are a bit different to forward players. You don’t need too much dynamism in a solid back 4..
