Spence has already played for two clubs this season so he can't play for a third. Even if we'd secured his transfer we'd not have been able to register him for the second half of the season.
He is also absolutely shite. He’s hated by the fans in the championship which is why he’s on loan to a second rate championship side from another average championship side.

Conte has clearly lost faith in the outgoing players (bar Gil), so would people rather have the potential disharmony they would cause, plus the extreme amount of wages wasted, over a talented youth midfielder?

It's not an ideal situation, but we're only in 2 comps now, and have a slimmed down squad with players loyal to Conte's system. Yes injuries are a worry, but it's all hypothetical at this time.

We've certainly had better transfer windows than Arsenal, West Ham & Man Utd.

Honestly think it's almost obvious that we've got some of those out of contract in the summer players lined up.

We've cleared a bit of a path in the squad & it should hopefully allow more funds towards a quality striker.

We've actually improved in quality, even if it's more out than in.
We have no idea what version of Bentancur and Kulusevski we are going to get. Or how fast they could settle in with English football. These aren't players who have proven themselves big time either. It remains to be seen how much Conte improves them

Respect everyone's right to an opinion but in the short term I just dont buy this very thin squad view. Even if the FA Cup run goes all the way to the final, we have a max of 23 games left in 4 months, c. 5-6 games a month.

We have 10 players across the defensive/wing back positions and then 9 across the central midfield and forward positions. That's 19 players, yes our bench isnt world class and may need some youngsters to top up if we get unlucky with a really bad injury crisis, but its enough to get us to a position where we can actually invest in players Conte wants in the summer which is the whole strategy our ITKS have repeatedly stated is our focus.
Yeah I think it's simply a reaction to the fact we previously had 4 expensive players filling those bench slots so our bench always had a kinda of weight to it, even if Alli, Lo Celso etc did very little when they came on (which they usually didn't).

In reality, we were actually having to leave very expensive, unwanted assets out of the squad on a fairly regular basis. How many minutes have Gil, Ndombele, Lo Celso and Alli had in the league since Conte arrived? Probably less than 500 combined.

If the bench size was 5, or even 7, I don't think it would seem like an issue. It's just the fact that it's now 9 makes the squad look slightly thinner.

I kinda get that there are more options Conte will trust now and you hope they start well right away. I think Top 4 is definitely achievable but that's reliant on no outbreaks or injuries which is a tough ask.

For a minute, imagine Conte's top targets are;

LCB - Pau Torres
CM - Bissouma
RWB - Spence
CF - Jonathan David

Do you honestly think these players would have been available now? They're not are they so we have to hold on to the summer.

We've down what we needed to. Move players who Conte had no plans for on or get them in the shop window, signed a CM who is better than what we have (also fits Conte's style) and got a potentially quality attacker in.
This is the thing, I am always patient with transfers. Making major changes in January is virtually impossible and signing the right player is more important than signing the available player.

My doubts are simply about numbers. Forward numbers are fine. We have 7 options who can fill 3 positions in the first team. That's okay. Defensivily, if anything, we could even afford to lose a player.

It's just CM. I expected 2 of 3 to leave not all 3 and unfortunately we are left short. Whites loan being blocked shows that we know we are short.

Now maybe we really trust white and devine to step up. But despite people claiming Ndombele, Lo celso and Dele rarely featured the reality is that they actually featured considerably, I would say one if the three have appeared in more games than not. Now obviously Bentancur replaces that position, and would take most those appearances but one injury and frankly we have real problems with depth and lack of tactical flexibility.

So, while I accept business is done in principle, I am still hoping we are trying at least to find a solution here. Even a stop gap.

We've gained players who want to be here and work for Conte. That in itself is an improvement for me.

same can be said even if we bring in strikers, RWB and "creative" midfielders you are moaning for

I think we should have been in on Wout Weghorst given the fee (very Lllorente-type signing), but if the long game is in mind, and we have a long-term signing in mind for the summer like De Kettlehair, that’s understandable. A loan for a striker would have been ideal, though. Overall, I’m good with where we are now and very happy about where we may be come the summer.

Looking around the PL, this is what happened in regards to major signings.

Everton - Mykolenko, Patterson, Alli, El Ghazi
Villa - Coutinho (loan), Digne, Chambers, Olsen
Newcastle - Guimaraes, Targett, Wood, Trippier
City - Alvarez
Liverpool - Diaz
Burnley - Weghorst

Only Everton, Newcastle and Villa have brought in more and I would hardly say they've brought in top well-sought after players. Newcastle because they have money and need to stay in the PL.

Everton have mostly signed unwanted players and two very easily obtainable but risky signings.

We forced Liverpool into signing their priority player now rather than the summer.

Otherwise, hardly any big or quality signings have happened.
