To whom it may concern(BSODL)

Tbf he's been involved, but not in identifying or trying to force players in. Long way to go in this window alone, but positive signs so far.

Yours sincerely,

Levy's biggest critic of late.
------------------------

*please remember this post when you are screaming "Trix just hates Levy, so it's not a balanced view". I've made many many posts like it, but they get ignored in the quest to discredit anything anti Levy*
Good to hear and thanks for sharing Trix. Early days in the window but simply by the way we’ve re-structured the football operations I’d expect Levy to now be far less involved.

I think Levy will be a lot happier staying out of it with someone like Ange who unlike conte won’t just be demanding to sign a ton of £50-80mil 30+ year olds and/or big money signings he then fails to play or get the best out of.

As for Levy he’s a slow learner and I’ve also been a big critic of him the last 3 years especially but credit where it’s due:
•Internal review of player recruitment and change in personnel and structure of player recruiting

•Internal review and restructure of football operations

•Munn Chief Football Officer appointment who has City Group experience who are a good well ‘oiled’ football operation

•Hired Postecoglou on a 4 year deal (perfect fit in terms of positive personality and exciting attacking playing style)

Next step is to ruthlessly cull the squad, take ‘losses’ on many deadwood players and sign smart value signings who fit ange’s football philosophy

Do that and supporting the club will be a lot more enjoyable again and we will slowly build our way back up to being competitive.

Let’s see.

Let's see how long that lasts before congratulating him on it.
Sorry but I, for one, don't think he'll be able to let those people get on with their jobs without interference from him. He just hasn't ever shown he can. Always get's involved and I can't imagine it will be easy for him to delegate and not butt in.

All good so far but change needs to be proven of time, we’ve had green shoots before but then reverted back to normal

Levy doesn’t poke his nose in things and cock things up for 2 weeks during which we’ve signed zero players and everyone is celebrating that the great man has finally changed and learned his lessons

I think it's how we have decided Raya is too much then gone straight to target B on the keeper list and pretty much secured him in days. In the past we would have haggled for Raya the whole summer wasting everyone's time, leaving us short and pissing everyone off in the process. That target B is also apparently approved by Ange and Gabbanini(spelling?), not some random name we just went for.

Yes it is still June, but if we continue like that and get business done without wasting time then it is a good sign IMO.

I’ll be firmly seated in the seeing is fucking believing stand until the window closes. We’ve been here far to many times before for me to just trust things are going to change this time round.

You beautiful bald bastard, you’ve given us a GK and AM already?

Get those 2 CB’s in, and a surprise reach around signing too and we will be forced to take you off the shit list for a while.

Fair praise where it’s due, a GK and AM to be excited about this early in the window is a refreshing breath of air around here.

As I said in another thread.... Last season we brought in Bissouma and Peresic early and at good prices, and we were all very excited. We then failed to shift the deadwood and failed to address the CB problems we've had for half a decade. It does seem different this time, and it's a great start that looks positive right now, but there's still a long way to go.

He needs to do more than have a good couple of weeks to erase the mismanagement of the last 3/4 years to earn a reprieve from me. Good start but that's all it is thus far.

100%, it’s very important to keep things level headed and within a realistic perspective.

It’s a good start but it’s crucial that we finish off even stronger.

I think it's all fairly predictable. After 22 years we've seen the ENIC-Levy patterns of behaviour.

Their business strategy is for the football team to be in the race for champions league qualification. Being in the race gives a guaranteed flow of income, and leverage for the other parts of their business. It ensures a full stadium and sales of merchandise.

In their cycle, if the football team is on target or exceeds expectations, then it's keep things ticking over. They absolutely will NOT be spending to chase trophies or challenge to actually win the league. They are in their goldilocks zone and all is good in the world as far as they are concerned.

If in the cycle it looks like the football team is dropping away from the race for champions league, into mid-table. Then they will spend more in the transfer market than other years. Not for any reasons of sporting ambition or glory chasing. But to get back into that goldilocks zone where the money keeps rolling in and their property and entertainment portfolios grow.

The football team is on a downward spiral. ENIC absolutely will be more proactive in the transfer market this summer. Nothing has changed.

If the football team was on a upward trajectory. Levy would be of the position, this squad is good enough to finish, let's say, 4th, why should I spend lots of my lovely money trying to finish 3rd or 2nd.

Being a bit more proactive this summer won't be evidence of ENIC-Levy changing their business strategy. We'd need longer to know that, but then we have had 22 years, how long do we want to form a judgement?

Woke up this morning the most optimistic I've felt about the club in a long time. Probably since before the CL final. By luck or design the rebuild just seem to be falling nicely in to place at the moment, I just hope it isn't a false dawn.

I'm not quite ready to apply for my BSoDL card yet, but if we can get a few more in as swiftly and efficiently as we've sorted out Deki, Vicaro and Maddison, and get rid of some of the dead weight we'll be in a super position by the time we jet off to Aus.

And from someone who isn't a Levy hater, i would add that if the transfer window does go pear shaped from here i'll be struggling to defend him ever again, even i can see that this is a pivotal moment for the club and the right things , however difficult, need to be done.

Don't get carried away , remember these words from our leader.

“We could have easily spent more money on players. Who knows if that would have bought us more success or not. The right approach is to build from the bottom up. There is no quick fix to becoming a much more significant global club.”

Agree mate.

Some will say "oh but it doesn't make up for the years of mistakes and lets see how it goes etc" but for me there are now some really clear positive signs that I've not seen before under Levy all at once:
1. Signing a profile of Manager who is the perfect fit for our club and DNA and importantly signing them on a 4 year long-term deal to build a project
2. Internal football review and re-structure with the appointment of Scott Munn as Chief Football Officer
3. Re-structure and review of the player recruiting set-up
4. Being decisive early on in the transfer window and clearly having a plan (Vicario, Maddison and cut-price sale on Winks)
5. Levy seemingly stepping back from the football side and leaving it to good appropriate football people

These 4 factors all link in with each other to make us doing good business quickly and efficiently as part of an exciting project and plan which we hope in time will deliver enjoyment and success, this is all I and many others have asked from Levy for years, if we leave things like this we will operate like Brighton but with better players and a higher wage and transfer budget and I think we can very much compete and enjoy supporting the club again.

Early days in the window but I think having Ange as our Manager is the key, I've hated it when people have tried to deflect blame away from Jose, Nuno, Conte and say that it was the players fault etc, its not just one person fault but the Manager is and always will be the single most important person at a football club.

With Ange we have a Manager who has a realistic plan, he is confident and decisive and signing players to play in his exciting style of play is far easier than signing the ones which Jose and Conte wanted which were making Levy squirm.

We have our ducks in a row now, lets hope it stays this way and we can enjoy the ride again and if so for now I hope the Levy songs go away and we get fully behind Ange and the team so we can create a special atmosphere again like we used to have under Poch, Redknapp, Jol etc.

This is a quote from 2019 and it means nothing really.

Our amount spent has never really been the issue, that has steadily increased as the stadium has got up and running and after the pandemic etc, our issue the last 3-4 years especially has been a misalignment of the Managers hired with the DNA of our club, a scattergun approach to hiring players and therefore a lot of wasted time and money.

If after Poch we'd hired a similar style of Manager and continued to bought sensible/decently priced players who fit that same/similar style and system the re-build would've been a lot less painful.

Levy has needed a Manager who is confident and decisive but one who is realistic and flexible and who is willing to also coach and develop players, Ange is that guy which is why things seem smoother than before. Even Poch who worked wonders for us was quite emotional and a bit indecisive at times, we saw that from his pressers and heard from ITK how Poch was with regards to certain players he wanted etc, Jose and Conte were far worse, Jose pretended he was happy with what he had and signed us a bunch of cloggers and Conte wanted every signing to be aged 30+ and £60mil+ as to him 'experience' was everything, neither of these approaches suited us at all.

I've bashed Levy as much as the next person but bringing up quotes like this don't really serve much propose, essentially it says he will continue to run our club in a sustainable way, good that is a good thing, as long as the reasonable amount of money we do spend is spent sensibly and well with a clearly aligned plan then we will be fine.

Jury still out as we need central defenders.

Also, a concern was that duty Poch peak times when we should have been building on the excellent squad we have, we just sat back and was like this is good enough no need to bring in players to push the starting ones.

So even if we did manage to build an excellent balanced squad and have a really good season, there would be a need to properly manage the squad each summer and not let it get into state where we need desperate additions.

He hasn't changed and he will spent what he feels is needed to give us a top four challenge and little more.

It's all about the wage structure in terms of really competing and that won't change

But that doesn't mean we can't be a success. Ange isn't someone who is going to demand top players so if we're smart with recruitment and the coaches perform as well as we all hope then we can look forward to some great times.

All good points but if we have a manager who is well aligned with our DNA, who also develops players and if we sign good talents at decent prices to suit that then we should be able to compete as best we can without being taken over by oil or states like Chelsea, city or Newcastle etc have.
