I think that's because people wrote of Dele or thought he could play elsewhere. Now Dele seems to be Jose's guy at number 10 then it does beg the question do we need both Celso and Bruno for a roughly combined figure of 120 mil (70 on Celso 50 on Bruno) when both play best behind the striker. Especially when we really need other positions.

Yeah that and people were adamant that Levy had to #backpoch by bringing in an additional attacking mid as a way to strengthen the team

I agree, that’s the reason but disagree with it. We need midfielders with a strong passing game and who can create chances. Winks can’t do that, Dele is a bit of a problem in terms of his skill set/position, so if Eriksen goes we only have Ndombele and LoCelso. Im not sure what Lo Celso’s passing game is like either, I thought (perhaps wrongly) it isn’t his strongest suit.

i think we still have major holes all over the squad And Jose coming won’t transform those players. We need full backs, centre backs, dm, am, someone as kane backup whether that’s Parrott or a flexible wf... maybe Gk.... but the part for me that would most immediately improve us is signing a top goal scoring wing forward. I‘d much rather see Skipp or even Foyth given an opportunity as dm if it meant we could sign someone to play up top add pace and goals. I’m a big fan of Son and Lucas but I don’t think either are quite top level, and their goal records agree. Someone like sancho or preferably a faster option would transform our expectations, imo, from debating about whether our attack is good enough, to knowing what is.

Lo Celso's passing game is top class. IMO he's a more rounded player than Ndombele in that he can pass and dribble but also has a decent ability and willingness to tackle and defend where Ndombele could improve a bit.

Assuming this hybrid 4-2-3-1/3-2-5 becomes the plan A going forward I'm quite excited with the potential we already have in our squad. I think we probably need 3 significant signings to top it off, the depth already looks pretty good to me.

DM - Dier is a good squad option for this key role, with the added bonus of being CB competition also, but overall I think we would thrive with a mobile DM in the Kante/Ndidi/Fabinho mould. Could be one for the scouts. I have this as top priority.

CB - Even if Jose can convince Toby and/or Jan to stay, we are going to need another option here sooner rather than later. The links to Ruben Dias and Dayot Upamecano look to fit the bill here.

RB - Jose is getting a lot out of Aurier which is great to see but we know he wanted out in the summer, and does have a reckless side we have to be wary of. If there is still a possibility of Atal I think we should explore it.

I'm hopeful we can afford 3 significant signings between January and the Summer, but I appreciate that is an optimistic viewpoint based on our history.

Fernandes is an interesting one. I think GLC and Dele probably cover his role between them, but he's a real talent and if Jose wants him then I'll back it. Could be facilitated by Jose finding a solution for RB/CB above without need for a big signing.

Other musings:-

GK - May need a succession plan here. I like the links to Nubel. Nubel in and Lloris to PSG? I'd be tempted by that.

LB - The Davies injury is a blow because he seemed tailor made for that defensive LB role. I'm hoping Jan is given a chance there tbh as seems suited to him too. Sess and Foyth pairing could be an option too if we were to flip the attacking FB from RB to LB.

ST - Will Jose need another target man to cover Kane if he gets injured, considering we play more direct now? Maybe Dele will have to cover as the main ST rather than Son. Parrott also waiting in the wings I suppose. It's a tricky position to sign for.

WF - The only other area I can see room for improvement is Lucas. However we need to see what he can do if Jose gives him a run of games first. The talent is there no doubt.

TL : DR - If Levy has the ability to back Jose with 3-4 quality signings by the start of next season there's every chance we can be a real force next term.

I'd love it if Jose brought Skipp through, but I feel like he wants a really physically imposing player in there. There is time for Skipp and tbh Matic would probably only last a couple of years here if we did sign him.

Matic looks shot already to me, no thanks.

I'm a bit worried that game after game we play without a striker option on the bench. I would like to have Parrot there at the very least, otherwise I'd like to sign someone.

Regarding WF, Lamela is another one could be replaced. I love him as a player, I really do. But his fitness will always be a problem.

The striker options are already out on the pitch, Son and Lucas.

And if one of them get injured then that is one less wf AND one less striker option at the same time. I'd prefer if we had fresh legs to throw on, if we need them.

We could use Dele as a false 9 if necessary, while we sort out our more pressing issues.

My wishlist and one I think is realistic over 2 windows is:

AM/Eriksen replacement - Fernandes
DM - Zakaria
RB - Atal
CB - Dias
GK - Nubel on a free

Aurier is playing well but Atal would be amazing in this system!

To be honest I didn’t have Atal down as a Mourinho style fullback, but if we were to stick to the system we’ve seen the last couple of games then you’d have to say he would be incredible, essentially playing as a winger whenever we have the ball.

He’d also provide another option at WF.

Nübel, Atal and a DM would set us up very nicely indeed.

Sure, we could. And we might end up doing it.

But this is the wishlist thread, and I wish to have a striker option. And I don't think it affects DM and RB being the higher priorites.
